I want to find a good German course. I know there's Duolingo, Babbel, Rosetta Stone, etc., but I find they don't work for me.

I want a course like the ones from 15-20 years ago that would give you some text books and some CDs for listening exercises.

I started learning German with one of those that my dad had, but unfortunately the audio lessons are incomplete.

I'd like to know where I can download/purchase a course in that format. I also prefer that format because my internet access is intermittent so I want to be able to study offline.

Thank you!

My library has German learning CDs. Maybe check yours.

Shoot, they might even have digital checkouts!

Ah, it sounds to me like you're wanting something kind of like the old Pimsleur German CDs. Looks like the current iteration is a subscription model with option to buy. I only remember the mp3s I downloaded years ago.

Second the pimsleur approach

I recommend looking for the Michel Thomas Method, as well as Linguaphone AllTalk Method.

I supplement my Duolingo German with books and CDs from the Library.

Assimil is the best option IMHO

This is coming rather late, but I would definitely recommend Language Transfer. It's a series of MP3s, that you can listen to on their own, or use their convenient app. The whole thing is free, although they are happy to accept donations.
