Managed to do a big clean in just 2 hours - wiping everything including the windowsills, scrubbing the bathtub, sinks and stove, moving empty heavy pots temporarily out of common area, massive vacuum and mop... As usual, nothing like last minute panic to finally get shit done that really didn't need to take that long after all...

Good thing is the REA actually seemed decent enough and not too anal about details, most importantly it seems like the short lease period was only because it was a lease break situation and not because they want to sell - so I can be confident of rolling onto a monthly situation til the end of my studies. No need to rush around looking for a friend to crash with for the last 1-2 months, but I can also bugger off afterwards fairly easily afterwards.

Now to just get to the end of this frigging degree...

It looks like technology companies have just given up on smart home stuff. There are no more smart clocks, smart displays, not even speakers side from Sonos. Everyone got sick of using these things and the world has moved on.

This means I can chuck out my smart clock with the broken cable. I can actually get rid of it completely! It's the cable that's broken, not the unit, and it's such a weird voltage and connector it's not worth trying to replace.

It's a bit of a shame to contribute to more ewaste. I might drop it off at one of the ewaste points at a library or office works. But it's nice to know I can let go of something. No holding onto a cable 'just in case'. No need to try get an otherwise perfectly fine unit to work, because I didn't use it anyway. I can actually throw this thing out, and there's no equivalent on the market to replace it with.

The small amount of waste you'll be contributing is very very small. The best thing you can do is avoid it in the future, which looks like you're doing.

All products have a life. Yours has it's turn now.

So if the Reject Shop was like 10 times bigger; that’s what Panda Mart is?

that new nothing phone 3a in blue has me questioning my phone sexuality. And at half the price of a new iphone its VERY tempting. How are google, samsung and apple producing the same shit year in year out with minimal upgrades charging such insane prices when this beautiful thing is innovative and so cheap?

Non starter anyway, nothing wrong with my phone. But when it does die... Why would I spend double the price of the nothing to just get another boring slab of steel and glass? Apples ecosystem is bloody nice. But Siri is still a disaster 5 years in, apple intelligence is DOA and if Steve Jobs were still around he'd have someone shot for the current state of iOS18.

I'm so cold in the office today. I dress for the temperature outside but the air-con in this place is ridiculously strong. Plus there's a draft exactly where I sit as well making it worse. It would have to be under 20 degrees in here. It's nice right when you come back from outside, but not so much once you've cooled down. Need to remember to pack an office jacket for hot days.
