I saw this app on Flathub today and gave it a quick download, and imported a backup of my personal Obsidian vault to give it a quick test. It seems pretty promising!

Looks good indeed. However it does not yet seem to support embedding Markdown files within other Markdown files with the ![[]] syntax so my current system of having topical notes that contain subtopical ones does not work. But it's nice know that there is a FOSS system that can work with a standard Obsidian Vault.

So basically if anything happens with Obsidian, you can use Tangent as somewhat of a replacement? I took a brief look at their site and aside from not having as big an audience and I think not as many features, and also having a different look, not sure how Tangent is different.

I ask with genuine curiosity, I realize this reply can come off really dismissive when I'm just curious and want to engage with the post you made.

It's open source

Doesn't look like there's a mobile version

I know some complaints are it doesn't do anything different to Obsidian to me that is a massive advantage as that's kinda what I'm looking for. I just want an open source Obsidian, so, it's on my radar to check in on every few months to see how it is progressing.

Unfortunately, for me the fact that mobile apps seem to be very far out still is an immediate no-go for me as a practical option yet as I do at least 30-50% of my note making / reading on the go.
