Summary

Artist Sarah Boardman said her 41-year art career is at risk after Donald Trump accused her of distorting his likeness in a 2019 portrait displayed in the Colorado State Capitol.

Trump called for its removal in a March 23 Truth Social post, prompting Republican lawmakers to have it taken down the next day.

Boardman denied political bias and said the portrait was pre-approved. She reported a sharp decline in business and backlash, though her family and supporters defended her online.

Boardman had also painted Barack Obama and George W. Bush.

Another victim of the touch of King Mierdas.

And let's face it, it was a flattering portrait. I despise flatterers and don't care what happens to their careers. We've all got struggles and some of us refuse to kiss ass regardless of the consequences.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 16 points 18 hours ago

I so very wish they had just ignored his rantings and ravings. Just completely do no comment and refuse to take any action, but most importantly, do not take it down, and do not offer to replace it. Nothing.

Would have been hilarious to see him get more and more angry over a big fat nothing.

It's not as good a likeness as Bush's or Obama's paintings she made, but it's not far off and he looks healthier and younger in her painting than in real life, but whatever dude.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 3 points 19 hours ago

not orange enough, so it doesnt look like him, also the neckgina thing hes hiding.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Funny. I don't even think it looks that bad. He looks worse in person.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 19 hours ago

I think it was Jon Stewart that asks....does he think his pictures are flattering?

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

Maybe that's the distortion 🤔

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Republicans are the snowflakes and while not surprising, just absolutely pathetic and sad.

The portrait looked a shit ton better than how he looks in real life but we all know that the fragile Republican, male especially, will be hurt of the portrait isn't AI generated to artificially make him look like a comic book hero and isn't as fat and sickly looking that he actually is.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If anything, he looks better in the portrait than irl. His narcissistic addled brain thinks he doesn't look disgusting...but he seriously fucking does.

I daresay he almost looks.... Stately in the portrait. It's like a look into an alternate reality where Trump was loved by his father and got into politics out a desire to serve his country, and were he's also done the bare minimum to care for himself for the past 79 years.

[–] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

My guess would be he hates that she put gray in his hair and wrinkles around his eyes

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

The artist should add a toothbrush mustache and more fucking orange.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 3 points 23 hours ago

Who does he think he is? Winston Churchill?

[–] ef9357@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why would he object to a picture that makes him look like a normal human? I mean, it looks way better than he normally does IRL.

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

man definitely has some issues with how he sees himself

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 18 hours ago

man definitely has some issues ~~with how he sees himself~~

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You could say it is a bad portrait because it does not show how shitty he really looks.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 4 points 23 hours ago

It's a very generous portrait

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

That sucks. Hopefully she gets some filthy rich patron to prop her up so she can flip donvict and his ilk the bird...

[–] tacosplease@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

I bet lots of rich people would be happy to buy paintings she intentionally altered.

[–] Baphomet_The_Blasphemer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean, Trump has a point here. That portrait is barely recognizable as being him... way too normal looking, not enough orange blotches around the face, hair looks attached instead of combed over, and she definitely wasn't able to capture that maniacal glint in his eyes.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 19 hours ago

also the contrast between his orange skin and his white pastey skin is not as prominent in the portrait.

[–] the_q@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

Just smear some Cheeto dust over it and he'll be happy.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

She didn't have enough orange paint.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 112 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Honestly she used modest flattery. Be happy she didnt draw your triple neckgina fold.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Necklabia. And extreme contrast between is orange skin and is sickly white skin isn't seen in the portrait too

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 47 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

I know. I don't get the problem wih it, it looks fine to me. If anything it humanized him a bit, it looks a bit softer than his official portrait....

.... oh wait, now I get it. Dude must be so insecure in his manhood that he rejects anything that he thinks makes him look soft.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 19 points 2 days ago

It's hideous and inaccurate by not being hideous enough, let's not beat around the bush.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

He's like Poppin' Fresh. Newly made dough is harder than he is.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Everyone my age and above has a turkeyneck, unless they've had expensive and unconvincing work done. That's just the aging process.

The thing that's not a normal part of aging is the way Trump's mouth looks like the vagina of an elderly cow.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

Did you see his neck, he has a 2nd one

[–] OrteilGenou@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Orangina with a side of fatty bacon

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

That's his neck

[–] Zess@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Her life is probably in peril considering how fucking unhinged trumpets can be.

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am reminded of those poor artists that had to paint the portrait of vial dictators, Hitler, Putin, Stalin.

Afraid if the portrait is not approved they'll be shipped off to the gulag, internment camp or the front lines.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

vial dictators

Laboratories HATE them

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 39 points 2 days ago

When will people learn to not have anything to do with the orange orangutang.

[–] Bristingr@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

Since the Colorado Governor put an image of himself in the form of South Park, they should go get a picture of Mr. Garrison too since he wants it redone.

[–] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago

She did distort his likeness. His hair is way more fucked than that.

[–] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Since she's now doing the time, she might as well have done the crime.

Should have been more like this - Rubble Rubble!

Thank you for the correction

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So if he's falsely claiming that she intentionally made him look bad, isn't that slander?
