I just found out that Buckethead has released something like 90 albums this year. The dude is absolutely a machine.

Edit: Looks like it's actually 99. The crazy bastard released 9 albums in the time it took me to write my comment!

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Does he just jam for 30 minutes and call it an album?

[–] pete_the_cat@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

Apparently so haha

The Pike Series are mini-albums that Buckethead began releasing rapidly in 2011, usually around 30 minutes in length.

[–] Farvana@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Over a basic backing track in a MacBook, yeah.

Most boring concert I've ever been to. The Wood Brothers were more exciting.

[–] pete_the_cat@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

WTF? Really? I never listened to him much, but I know from what I've heard he's beyond amazing.

Edit: according to Wikipedia you're missing a few hundred 😳

Buckethead's discography currently includes 435 studio albums (388 of which are in the Pike series), one live album, four special releases, five demo tapes, three solo DVD video releases, two DVD video releases with Cornbugs, three music videos, three solo videography releases, and 16 videography releases with other artists.

The 99 I mentioned were just FROM THIS YEAR! Dude is absolutely insane!

[–] pete_the_cat@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Oh damn haha

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 years ago

Holy shit. Seriously????

He's phenomenal

[–] ReeferPirate@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

'Elephant man's alarm clock' is my favorite buckethead album

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

I'm going to give it a listen

[–] intelati@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago

My mind boggles. Also, I'm curious to have a listen. 👀

Also, 99 😱

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 16 points 2 years ago (2 children)

And then they disappear just as fast & decades later I still listen to the same albums in my car.

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Pulse Ultra. One album. Absolutely fantastic. I'm sad and glad we've never gotten more.... but what is out is perfect. So maybe a second album would've not been as good.

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 years ago

This guy gets it

[–] Phanatik@kbin.social 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sleep Token.

Not a single song I haven't enjoyed. All I need now are their vinyls and a turntable.

Worship!

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

They said "obscure little", not "the most popular and hyped metal act currently, with sold out shows worldwide"

[–] Phanatik@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Not something I was aware of. Most people I talk to haven't heard of them.

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If it helps, I've never heard of them.

Metal is huge as a genre but it somehow still flies under the radar. 90% of people I meet have no clue about metal at all.

[–] SirGaston@feddit.de 9 points 2 years ago (4 children)

So, what bands are you talking about? Curious...

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 7 points 2 years ago (3 children)
[–] PatFussy@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

This is beyond obscure, this is 2000s turkish metal that tried to go for 80s garage metal

[–] SirGaston@feddit.de 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Thanks, will give it a listen

The above album is on youtube music, too.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Is good, I'll try it as work music.

[–] Wootz@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Not sure if they're that obscure, by some people's standards, but here, have some Kardashev

[–] SirGaston@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago

Yes, Kardashev are awesome!

[–] JokklMaster@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Blackbriar are pretty cool.

Lord of the Lost are one of my favorites but are getting bigger especially with Eurovision this year.

Warkings keep slapping.

Earth is great to listen to if you're trying to read or write and just need to block out other noise. Apparently the guy behind the band was roommates with Curt Cobain.

[–] Kyrinar@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I love me some Warkings! Their stuff is consistently fun.

[–] Farvana@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Dylan Carlson, frontman of Earth, actually gave Kurt the shotgun. He was convinced someone was gonna do a Lennon on Kurt.

[–] AstralPath@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 years ago (6 children)

Check out Eternal Champion's latest release. It's like Retro power metal. Incredibly well done.

For Black Metal fans, check out Toronto's Thantifaxath. My personal fav release is Sacred White Noise.

Good shit. Both bands have a great catalog.

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Champion is up my alley. I'll have to give both of them a serious listen.

[–] raptir@lemdro.id 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If you like Eternal Champion, check out...

  • Riot City
  • Gatekeeper
  • Visigoth
  • Megaton Sword
[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 years ago

I love gatekeeper.

My recommendations:

Witchcraft

Flight

Haunt (sometimes called haunt the nation)

Night demon

Caludron

I'm a big fan of The Score, but they aren't a metal band

[–] brognak@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

If throw out The Necromancers, though not sure if their obscure.

[–] TheDarksteel94@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 years ago

Aether Realm is one of the best current melodic death metal bands and no one can convince me otherwise.

[–] ArcRay@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 years ago

I've really been enjoying Faux Fiction. I haven't disliked a single one of their songs. They are more indie/rock than metal, but still goes hard.

Definitely check them out live if you ever get a chance!
