(Please forgive this being a day late, it's a busy weekend in our house and I lost track a bit. Paying the "elderly dog we're dogsitting" tax by way of apology)

The observant among you will realise I totally put this theme here in the calendar because I knew I'd have a doll to knit for my friend's baby. Forward planning, baby (+ toddler)!

We've almost all either got kids of our own, or been recruited to knit tiny things for someone else's tiny people. So let's see what sort of things you've been making for the little ones!

Technically the winner of the Halloween theme was...um...me. And I hate that so will just breeze past it, but I do love the socks so have put them in their rightful sidebar spot anyway ๐Ÿ˜‚

Speaking of which. This fortnightly themes thing was a fun experiment, but clearly we don't have the numbers to support the current format and make it competitive. I hugely appreciate everyone who entered a project so far, and have really enjoyed seeing your work, but I also don't want anyone to feel like they have to post just to avoid me looking like a billy no-mates.

SO. On that note, I throw it open to you. What would you like to see going forward?

a) wider-ranging, more general themes?

b) longer timescale for each theme?

c) get rid of themes entirely and try something else?

Maybe instead of people submitting individual posts we can have a sticky thread prompt of the week or something, idk, just brainstorming. Feedback welcome, and if none is forthcoming I'll just try more stuff until something sticks because I have no shame ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm a recent knitter so I don't have much of a backlog of projects to share, and everything I've done has been shared here already

I think maybe a longer timescale, like a month would work? So if people (I) don't have anything with that theme we (ahem I) can use the prompt to knit something small during that time to post :)

+1 for a longer timescale. Somehow I manage to always start a fitting project the moment the theme is over (yeah that's on me ๐Ÿ˜…)

Hah, oh no please don't start knitting for the theme that just sounds stressful! ๐Ÿ˜‚

But I'm thinking you and @Flughoernchen@feddit.de are right, longer makes more sense to capture more entries. And also it means I need to think of less themes, so they can also be broader and easier to find a project for.

And that way, fate has spoken and we will end up with a whole month of socks as previously threatened!

It's not a problem at all. I love prompts, they help me when I don't know what to knit/draw/whatever. In this case, it'll be the perfect nudge for me to finally try knitting some dang socks ๐Ÿ˜…

Fair enough then! We are very different people ๐Ÿ˜†

I'm enjoying the themes but then I've been knitting for 22 years (I started in college, I'm not a granny ๐Ÿฅด) so I have a lot of work to pick from.

I think the longer time frame might be an enhancement.

A theme idea that might be encouraging to newer knitters is "knit fail", "oops" or "TIL". The idea being that people share a mistake or lesson learned the hard way and what was learned. It would be a keeping it real moment (not all projects go well) and a learning experience. We might learn that we are not the only ones on our embarrassing "I was x days old when I learned..."

Ooh I like this, definitely got plenty to contribute to that one ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

Thanks to everyone who gave their opinions in this thread! I've changed up the theme schedule to be monthly and we'll see how that goes, I've also worked on making the themes much broader so in theory more people will have a project that can fit.

DECEMBER IS SOCK MONTH. I REPEAT, DECEMBER IS SOCK MONTH. THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
