Keep in mind Rockstar cancelled single-player DLC content for Grand Theft Auto V. Why? Because online Shark cards (microtransactions currency) made them too much money. That's a fact. They literally cancelled the paid, story-driven DLC they were already planning on making and selling simply because it wouldn't have made them the most amount of money. So it was deleted, never finished, and will never be released.

They made 8 and a half BILLION dollars from GTA V!!!

You think a publisher like that is hurting? You think I'll ever buy anything from them again?? Especially not at $80/90/100...

GTA online made another 3 billion. Fuck these guys.

I'm not arguing with your statement but I'd like to point out that the single-player DLC was not deleted, it was repackaged as an Online update. Which proves your point anyway

I'm pretty sure Genshin has made similar billions and they give it away for free.

Pay to win seems to be the ultimate business model.

Didn't GTA 5 make like eight BILLION dollars?

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Well it coulda made more, you dirty fucking commie

True, and the amount of sales lowered their profit. Also, it was free on epic for a week. But they made their sales back by releasing it on like 8 different platforms. Legend says they might re-release it on more consoles in the future, like they did for PC.

All that I hear with this kind of argument, especially coming from a 'boss', is: "We have to keep maximising shareholder value and making sure that the CEO gets a bigger bonus every year. So despite our massive guaranteed record profits every time we drop a new game, we just have to raise prices so that the CEO won't feel the tariffs too badly when he buys his next Ferrari."

So despite our massive guaranteed record profits every time we drop a new game, we just have to raise prices and lay off ⅓-½ of the staff so that the CEO won't feel the tariffs too badly when he buys his next Ferrari."

They make a great point. GTAV was barely profitable at $50...

The amount of gamers is orders of magnitude bigger today, many of these gamers are adults with their own income, and the tools to build the games are more abundant.

So if you're selling to more people, of course it makes sense to have the same price as games had decades ago. And if these companies disagree with me... Sure, agree to disagree, I'll purchase your game at 75% off on Steam three years from now. Maybe I won't purchase it at all and enjoy it anyway.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's right...

They want to price this trash based on middle age working cuck...

Cool, I ain't playing if that's their MO

Vote with your wallet.also fuck trump for ruining the economy

Problem is that it's also an impossible equation to expect customers to keep paying higher prices despite inflation nixing their wages. I really don't know what they expect to happen. Many people will simply wait until it goes on sale.
I guess, it's a way to squeeze the day-one rich kids a bit more? But at the same time, you're cutting down sales when the hype is biggest. And if two people spend $60 each, that's more money than if only one of them ends up buying your game...

So what you’re saying is, they should make it $120…

[–] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 4 points 2 months ago

Damn, but we really need individually modelled strands of hair on people's toes!

This game looks really great. Too bad it’s not on pc.

I guess I’ll have to wait also, I’ll probably hope that an updated steamdeck gets released around the time of this game.

I’d rather build a new computer to play this game rather than get a console. But I think an i7-8700 with a new gpu should suffice.

[–] huskypenguin@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Does it? What looks fun about this? It's a collection of cut scenes.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 2 points 2 months ago

Propaganda B good mate

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

And that's why these AAA investorware studios delay the PC release of all their properties. Exploitative walled gardens give them the leverage needed to charge such ridiculous prices without losing customers to piracy.

[–] tio_bira@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Well, i first played GTA V in 2018 on historic low price on PSN (at least on Brazil), i played few hours, get bored and proceed to play BF4 Online again.

Probably would the same with GTA VI, but i on PC now...
