I kept all the good boxes i used to move, for eight years. Finally thought I obviously don't need these taking up space, and trashed them.

Two months later I had to move.

Keep yo boxes fam.

Alternatively, cardboard boxes are very cheap. I wouldnt worry too much.

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Assuming the good ones are also cardboard, just cut the tape on them, store them flat. They take up very little room that way.

Kinda like with plastic shopping bags. As we get further and further from the date where they were banned (in Canada), I regret the times when I decided that I had enough of them for now and threw some out.

Though I'll probably just start using the smaller garbage cans without a bag once I run out and maybe just clean them every now and then instead of actually spending money on any garbage bags other than the big black ones.

They banned them in my state in the US as well several years ago. It's crazy when we go away and realize that not everywhere has this ban, and I kind of stock up with a bunch to take back home, lol.

Cats: GOOD BOX? SCRATCH SCRATCH MOTHERFUCKER!

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I need a good box at least 5-6 times a year. The pile consists of one box of each size category and there are no duplicates allowed. They are also efficiently stacked inside each other like those matryoshka dolls.

Genuinely curious, what are you doing that needs a regular supply of good boxes?

Can I hazard the guess that you play the NYT mini crossword?

Otherwise that's a funny coincidence

There was a clue today that was basically your answer to my comment

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

Ah gotcha. No i was just making a punny

The last couple of things i can remember are:

  • Packaging fragile 3D prints for transport
  • Shipping climbing shoes to repair
  • Storing some raspberry pi boards/cable/adapters

Too true, got a collection of good moving boxes in the shed after a house move. Slowly using them as painting floor though.

I had to trash mine after the rats decided they were a good place to piss.

My brother and his wife visited over the weekend so we did some major cleaning and I had to break down and throw into the recycling bin several perfectly useable moving boxes that have been sitting around for a year “in case I needed boxes”. Then I learned when they arrived that they were moving to a new place soon and could’ve used the ones I threw out.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That's some "Gift of the Magi"-level stuff right there. "Oh dang, I threw away a bunch of boxes yesterday!" "Oh no, we were going to help you clean your house!"

We have guinea pigs, so the definition of "good box" has changed to something that is just the right size and shape to be made into a hidey.

As soon as we put in the new box, the girls start destroying it, so we need a constant supply.

[–] SupremeDonut@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago

I call em spaceships for my cats lol

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 day ago

I get like 6 paper bags with my shopping and they make great hides for my guinea pigs. I cut a few holes in each bag and they tunnel around through the network of bags. They love it.

Unless they bury you in those good boxes

[–] misterdoctor@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I would unironically be honored if someone left me their collection of high quality cardboard or cardboard-adjacent boxes

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

Everyone has that one moment when they realize just how expensive a good box is if you need to go out and actually buy one with money.
