[–] Goldmage263@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They somehow never watched Idiocracy

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

That clip is from Zoolander though

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

probably for giant aliens when they land in toronto for the first time.

I'm no Canadian passport connoisseur but when were they red? My old one from 10 years ago is blue so I'm not sure what that's about?

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 77 points 1 day ago (3 children)

They are, but only if you're a diplomat

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The White Power Ranger one is badass.

It's also expensive and very shortlived, so it has at least that going for it. Source: found out my passport had expired 24 hours before boarding a flight; Also, austrian temp passports are also white

I was wondering, if it's perhaps relatively common between nations for passports to be red, but from some very quick image searching that doesn't really seem to be the case:

  • US blue
  • UK blue
  • France red
  • Germany red
  • Spain red
  • India blue
  • China red
  • Brazil blue

And thank god it changed back. Of all the issues in my life, having to look at a red passport once every few months affected me so much that you can't even imagine the hardship. That and something about wonky bananas that I've been told was a massive problem that's only going to be fixed if I vote for that party which definitely represents me as I can have a beer with it's leader. I'm guessing he'll buy the round given his wealth that the woke London elite keep trying to take but he's stood up to them

South Africa green

You probably left the EU or something.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No one ever said it was red.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 14 points 1 day ago

But they said it wasn't red. So one would question when they were.

I think I get it. They are expecting the passport to be red like the flag.

I think their point is that there would be no reason to saying that it's not red if there was also no assumption of it being red in the first place

I'm not a racist, but seven doesn't feel like a prime number.

They are correct. That is way too big.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

At that size of a passport, in an international emergency, you could use your passport as a shelter or flotation device .... is it also bullet proof?

[–] The_v@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

The U.S. bulletproof model was proposed for school children. Sadly, Republicans successfully fought against it, because it "Would give the kids an unfair advantage over the school shooters."

[–] demunted@lemmy.ml 3 points 19 hours ago

Sad chuckle

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 1 points 20 hours ago

Never thought of it before but they could make sections of this new enormous passport edible .... pages 14 to 16 could be used as an emergency ration if you get caught in a war zone.

Why blue? White with red trimming would be nicer.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Iirc, you can only choose red, blue, black, and green. Maybe other colors are possible, but not preferred (I can see a white passport looking pretty rough after a couple years, if you’re a heavy traveler). No idea why they wouldn’t stick with red though.

[–] Grabthar@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

You can see the text on the front of them for what they are for. Blue are regular passports for casual travel. Red are diplomatic passports for high ranking officials. Green are special passports for senators, MPs or government workers on official business. White temporary passports are usually issued abroad where a Canadian citizen has an urgent requirement to travel but doesn't have a passport for whatever reason.

[–] Twitches@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You guyses don't think that might be a bit large for travel /s

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

I gotta say, it's the perfect size for huge trips!

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago

Also not new. Mine already looks like this one.
