And they should.

That’s a convenient way to dismiss something that doesn’t fit your view.

Did they name their dog after liquor?

Maybe they adopted the dog with that name.

Maybe it’s named after W. Louis Hennessy, an American jurist who serves as judge in the District Court for Charles County, Maryland.

Maybe it’s named after the NY Jets long snapper.

Maybe your preconceptions and biases speak more about you than the people in the story.

Be better.

And hardware stores specifically, especially the local mom and pop ones, seem to attract the older semi-retired crowd that is looking for something to do where they can share their knowledge.

At least this is how it is where I live.

Right idea, wrong application. We need this kind of solidarity for the workers. Pretty sure the CEO with hundreds of millions of dollars will be okay.

I think there is a sense that if Apple is willing to walk away, it's a signal to other companies that the problem is real.

I agree that Apple may be the canary in the coal mine but I propose a motive beyond ethics.

It may be that Apple has seen a reduction in traffic from ads on Twitter recently and this latest move by Musk, coupled with everything else, gave them leverage to get out of any contracted ad buys. They pull ineffective ads, help their brand and ethics image, and save money doing it.

The cynic in me says whatever the motivation the largest driver is financial.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here: how is the guy on the phone supposed to know it really is the police on the other side and not just some guy trying to scam his way into a freebie?

At the individual level this is actually pretty simple. I work in IT and when I used to do security training the way we’d validate is with a known contact.

In this situation you get the contacting officers name and department, disconnect the call, call the non-emergency listed number for that department and ask for that officer by name.

There’s a lot of other failure point potential in this scenario but validating the person calling is actually law enforcement shouldn’t be one of them.

Pretty much the title. I’ve noticed lately that more independent and non-grocery roasters will have 12 ounce bags instead of one pound.

Is there a special reason for this beyond, I assume, bringing the price of more gourmet-ish coffee to a price point comfortable for the average consumer?

Also, shout out to King Bean in South Carolina, I love their Capers Blend.

The last bit you quoted about Biden is referring to statements he made about Biden asking Netanyahu about the possibility of a ceasefire and that Bibi told Biden there is none.

I’ve never worked in fast food but I’ve been to them and I’ve watched the workers. You can’t tell me packing boxes at Amazon is skilled labor and that shit isn’t.

This is what I typically carry in my pockets most days. I have a fuller load out in a sling bag that I take depending on the day’s activities, usually if I’ll be out and about with the dogs.

  • Old Hound slip and San Mai knife with titanium frame, desert ironwood scales and pearl inlay. (Love this knife!!)
  • Handkerchief
  • Street brass Zippo with refillable butane insert
  • Grav dugout set
  • Car key
  • Modern Carry slim leather card wallet
  • House and mailbox keys

Not pictured:

  • Phone and smart watch.

It’s called genericide. They encounter the 24 hour measure of time primarily through the US military and its service members so all 24 hour time generally gets called military time.

Similar to why facial tissue is often Kleenex or adhesive bandages are Band-aids in the US.
