In 2005, Jill Bartholomaus—a caseworker, single mom, and aspiring author—was killed by her estranged husband in a domestic violence incident.

Nearly 20 years later, her daughters discovered a folder of the stories she wrote, and they’ve made it their mission to finally publish the books their mom never got the chance to share with the world.

Now, the sisters are self-publishing the stories, raising funds to hire an illustrator, and planning a benefit concert in her memory in Eugene Oregon.

Their first book, based on a whimsical tale Jill wrote about a girl and her magic carpet, is expected to be released soon.

A mother’s dream, lost too soon, is finally being realized—and her legacy is now helping others heal.
