Life is just one big fight against entropy

[–] SmoothOperator@lemmy.world 52 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Local entropy, that is. At a global scale, life increases entropy.

[–] Onyxonblack@lemm.ee 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Yep, and life basically is entropy; or entropy causes life, the great mixing!

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

Wait, it's all entropy?

Always has been 👨‍🚀🔫👨‍🚀

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago

Bugs and trash are bad entropy, food and people are good entropy. Until people look like bugs and trash, then you do fascism.

Life is an orderly system of producing disorder

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

At a global scale, everything increases entropy

[–] SmoothOperator@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Well, nothing increases it, but aren't there contexts where it is unchanged? Vacuum and single isolated particles don't increase entropy I suppose.

Just adding energy into the system.

i misread that in my first reply, my adding energy (low entropy) to my high entropy system i stay alive

[–] hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com 37 points 1 month ago (2 children)

You fool, you utter buffoon, by doing this you increase entropy even more!

(and by "doing this" I mean doing literally anything)

[–] supernicepojo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Nonsense, entropy is a zero sum game…

[–] Lauchmelder@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago

Hence why I never tidied up my room as a child. My mom is in on it

[–] T156@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Only sometimes. Other times, you want to add extra entropy, so you can have a nice hot dinner.

[–] LanguageIsCool@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Entropy giveth and entropy taketh away

i would ague that that would actually be low entropy, cuz the amount of heat energy (high entropy) in the meal is quite low compared to the chemical energy it holds (low entropy), hence overall a hot meal is still low in entropy, and by ingesting it i transfer its low entropy into my system (body)

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 12 points 1 month ago

I am entropy.

[–] SmoothOperator@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Thank god for fridges

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

I say, let entropy work for you!

[–] vga@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 month ago

Entropy lurks everywhere.
