In the campaign of attrition and position that the war in Ukraine has become, FPV drones have quickly become ubiquitous and vitally essential.

Russia, initially relying mainly on Iranian Shaheds, soon put all the power of its war economy into manufacturing them itself.

yes but they are best used for spotting for a 155mm armored SPG on call

Ukraine was never provided the self propelled artillery to support high intensity armored maneuvers, decisive fire support and brutal defensive barrages... probably on purpose? because the Russian military does or at least used to understand artillery (idk not an expert on the topic) and would see that as a direct threat during the cold war (or at least the west convinced themselves of this).

Drones have absolutely changed warfare but the doctrine and its effectiveness in Ukraine have to be evaluated in that context.

What Ukraine did was develop a plethora of platforms and doctrines that are ideal for artillery spotting before they got the artillery.
