I am curious on if this is common for separation but the picture shows our current setup. Sorry it's a bit crude. The major line in the middle is the separation of my parents house and the PFSense and switch I put in for them. The left side is my rack and homelab. That is the separation of items that will move with me when I move out. Red lines are 10G and black lines are 1G.

What I am looking to do is separate the two networks so I can mess around with anything in the homelab and not down the Internet or any connections. Then I can play in PFSense and the switch without messing with anyone else. This also allows me to move the setup to where I move and have a semi setup network already.

What are the downsides to this? Has anyone done this before? Should I run routing on the switch vs pfsense?

Thank You in advance.
