I actually really needed to hear this. I'm being promoted into a position I've wanted for a very long time (trainer for the new employees) and they're redoing the process and relying on me to get the new-hires trained thoroughly

I know my job inside and out but I'm having doubts. If things go to plan I'll have my first trainee next week and I'm terrified I'm going to fuck the whole thing up, or they won't see results fast enough even though I'll be spending multiple weeks with each person, or I'll just be absolutely shit at training people even though I'm really good at my job...

Needless to say I'm extremely anxious which feeds back into itself "if I'm this anxious about it now how can I even be capable of handling the stress when I'm actually training..."

I know this is a meme but yeah, I need to get into that mindset! Thanks ๐Ÿ’š

Wow congratulations on your promotion! It's a brilliant achievement. Having your first trainee is terrifying you've never done it before and there's a lot of pressure, it's no wonder you're feeling anxious. It really is cos it's unfamiliar not cos you can't do it, and I totally believe in you. You got this!

Those are such uplifting words, thank you! I will take them to heart

I had a good one on one with one of the big bosses who has always had my back (and actually listens). I'm feeling a lot more confident now having been able to express some of my concerns

And thank you for validating my anxiety about the new position ๐Ÿค— I'm excited and nervous, but I know I'll do a good job and I have my bosses on my side

๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š Take care

Start to get comfortable with the uncomfortable by ordering something you never had in a restaurant you've never been to. Or invite people you don't know well. Or start a conversation with a stranger.

Or do anything else that isn't comfortable by your standards.

Welcome outside your comfort zone.

That's really good practical advice, inch by inch is far easier

A surprising number of people who seem to have their shit together are either confidently incompetent or are flying by the seat of their pants. You can do at least as well, and probably better.

It the words (slightly poorly remembered) of an old friend (in her 80's at the time).

"You don't ever feel like an adult. Underneath it all you'll always be the kid, or teenager you remember. The difference is, you get better at faking being an adult. The real change is when you realise everyone else is faking it too. Suddenly your performance doesn't seem too bad."

That's an excellent point!

Also, sometimes: it is scary BECAUSE it is familiar.

Unless you're a misogynist, a bigot, or a xenophobe. In that case, it is totally because you're incapable.

I am perfectly capable of being r-worded in the men's bathroom and that's what makes it scary
