In any warzone, counting the dead is a challenge. Gaza is no different.

As battles there intensify, the chaotic situation - with bombardment by Israeli forces, on-the-ground fighting, communications blackouts, fuel shortages and crumbling infrastructure - makes getting accurate information on the numbers of people who have died extremely demanding.

And Palestinian officials have said there are now "significant difficulties" in obtaining updated information because of the interruption of communications in the Gaza Strip.

The health ministry is Gaza's official source for death numbers - which it updates regularly. On Monday evening, it said 11,240 people had been killed, including 4,630 children, since the Hamas attacks on Israel on 7 October which prompted the current war.

A day after Mr Biden's dismissal of the numbers, the health ministry in Gaza provided more information, publishing an extensive list of names of all those who had been killed between 7 and 26 October.

Healthcare workers like Dr Ghassan Abu-Sittah, a Médecins Sans Frontières plastic surgeon based in London who has been treating people at hospitals in Gaza City, are key to recording those figures.

Others who have scrutinised the health ministry's figures include economics professor Michael Spagat, from Royal Holloway, University of London - who chairs the charity Every Casualty Counts which studies death tolls in wars.

It's good that third party NGOs are verifying the counts. Hamas has a very strong incentive to maximize civilian deaths, and are doing their part to put them at risk by telling Gazans to stay in the evacuation zone, using them as human shields, putting their infrastructure in protected areas, and intentionally causing this war in the first place. They are not a trustworthy source. Even if these numbers are accurate they need to be verified.

May as well post this for you to read also. (Though it would seem you didn't read the article you are replying to, so my hopes aren't high.)

Israeli mindset Dead babies (dead future Hamas) Dead pregnant women being cut open to save their babies and fail (dead Hamas baby maker) Dead male children (dead future Hamas) Etc...

The amount of brain twisting these people do to justify their bloodlust and dehumanize even the dead is not even surprising anymore, just annoying. Look for them in every post, all the way down and downvoted to hell. Not that votes matter.

The fact you still repeating disputed info as fact is telling a lot about your ability to distinguish between fake and real information. The fact is Hamas doesn't need to fake numbers because you can see, or maybe you don't bother, the dead body in the streets.

Hamas IS the government too whether you like it or not. They are split into a military branch, government branch etc...

So constantly saying the health ministry is Hamas is trying to mislead people into thinking they're the terrorists that committed the 7/10 massacre. But I know you know this.

Now for lies, IDF lies constantly too. They said 1400 people were killed, and now say no it's 1200. They told people to go South and they bombed them. They told the world they're not targeting journalists and UN workers, well they did. They are telling us they adhere to the international law of war, yet yesterday news came out they stripped and tortured 9 people at the Al Shifa hospital. They told us they would not target ambulances, they did. They told us they opened two water sources, just to bomb them a few days later.

*At least 32 patients, including three premature babies, had died over the past three days, Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry said.

There are between 600 and 650 inpatients at al-Shifa, as well as 200 to 500 health workers, and about 1,500 displaced people seeking shelter there, according to information shared with the World Health Organization, which was posted on Sunday on X.*

Sorry not sorry I do sympathise with civilian victims of war, whether the hostages taken or the babies and children that are being carpet bombed to death or amputations or even losing their minds.
