that's awesome, non-profit organizations will treat tenants with far more respect than corporate landlords who are only focused on maximizing profit!

I have to say, I do love the location. Access to natural environments, public facilities, commercial services, and transit, plus it will totally cheese off the assholes who bought those mcmansions along the river.

pfff of course not. The Region and municipalities don't dirty their hands with such things. They spend a pittance to contract out to The Working Centre and other NGOs (some for-profit). The Fine Article says: "Waterloo, Ont., is transferring a large parcel of land to Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region and Build Now: Waterloo Region"
