Saving a click: it’s “War of the worlds”

[–] Pronell@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

"Spielberg felt the actor's antics had hurt his own movie, 2005's 'War of the Worlds.' Far worse, though, had been an episode when Spielberg told Cruise the name of a doctor who had prescribed medication to a relative and the doctor's office was subsequently picketed by Scientologists."

And this would be the reason. He stabbed Spielberg in the back there. Fuck Hollywood numbers, who would want to be around a 'friend' who just did something like that to you?

They didn't work again together until Tom Cruise was needed for Top Gun 2.

It wasn’t a very good movie. I doubt the antics had anything to do with it

Cruise is a bankable star, and Spielberg is a bankable director. I figure there's a reason they didn't work together for a long time, and a personal grudge makes more sense to me.

But business is business, and I'm indulging in Hollywood gossip. I just fucking loathe Scientology.

For similar reasons, my head canon has the space Mormons in The Expanse as that cult instead, and I love the effect it has on the story.

Thank you, OP should not have used a click bait title.

Tom Cruise has never left the crazy designation for me. The events described made me distance myself from his work forever. I still think it's a great movie, but I can't think of anything I've watched with him since Valkrie.
