After starving Ontario public education of funding, Premier Doug Ford wants to send police into schools to oversee the dysfunction he’s enabling.

A bill put forward by his provincial government would enable cops to conduct programs in schools, reversing years of organizing that had removed them.

First-past-the-post gave Doug’s minority all the power.

I am going to make such a stink at the next school board meeting

Motor vehicle deaths are the leading cause of death for children in Ontario.

How about policing drivers? Or reducing the number of trips by cars?

Nah. Let's get rid of the speeding camera that keep catching speeders though. wAr oN cARs /s. More like 'don't @#$%ing mess with o&g profits and hegemony. Profits over people /s

I’m gonna tell you downtown people again. You wanna reduce car trips? Make a transit system that isn’t an absolute disaster. It took me 2 hours to travel 12km on ttc this past weekend.

That’s step #1 and we can’t get that done so we’re fucked there.

As a resident of the GTA it seems every time a badly serviced part of a say a Scarborough gets increased service, the downtown core residents bitch and moan that all gta funds should go to the core. We get nothing actually done

I live in a suburb of Kingston, I'm with you. City says it wants to increase transit and active transportation modal share, but the budget jsut goes to... more care lanes.

That said they have been putting in protect bike lanes as they redo streets, so there are some positive things happening here.

What is all this militaristic "we will protect you" bullshit going on around the world? What's the thought? "We will achieve safety, security, and peace once each and every one of you is slaughtered". smh.

Militarism is a key part of fascism. It protects the powerful, is used to justify further militarism or restriction of civil liberties, threatens dissenters, and may be used to suppress dissenters

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

That is part of it for sure. Another ism for you though, Capitalism is a huge part of militarism and has less to do with fascism than one would think. More about protecting an empire you are building than being a monster to "the people". I'm sure it's a mix of all that and more, especially human nature. It's a Gordian knot we cannot untangle, hence the "sword".
