If 50% of the world has personal computers and 6% of them have linux running subtraced by the 12.3m that are already here that means there are 227.7m potential users in the pipeline to the fediverse. The fediverse has a 5.4% penetration rate into the linux world.

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

As long as the fediverse keeps penetrating, all is good

[–] SaltyIceteaMaker@lemmy.ml 7 points 3 days ago

that's a higher penetration rate than i have!

The other category of operating systems is the rest of the Linux world that has better opsec. Six percent is like, just Mint users with gamer setups and Steamdecks.

Windows logo is like an X turned 45 degrees and they are already burning X-box so burn the desk box. They already proved China can run the US government. Stonk box self deprecates into oblivion. M$ is overdue to be liquidated and sold as a worthless American sticker brand

You can do this all independently. There is no pipeline as the meme implies.

I mean every time you go more private you hear about folks talking about the alternatives.

For me it was NordVPN>Windows Privacy>Signal>Mullvad>Fediverse>CalyxOS>Linux. Surprisingly similar.

Tracing it back I think I learned about Nord VPN from an Internet Historian ad, and went from there.

Beware the pipeline

I only still have windows on my gaming pc. And only really because I have a nvidia gpu. I tried a couple things and even just the desktop environment and regular apps are stuttery as all hell.

[–] lordnikon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

do you think your next gpu will be AMD or Intel?

I'll see when we get there what the market situation will be. My 3070 will probably be good for at least 5 more years honestly. Unless windows really goes to shit even further and I just cannot bare it even for gaming.

it's a shame the nvidia drivers don't work for ya. the last nividia card i had was a 970, i never had problems with the proprietary Linux drivers on Debian. the most i have had to was install was the nvidia-driver package and that was it. i guess nvidia has become even more hostile with their 30 series cards.

I mean I tried like 3 things and nothing worked. Might try again later. Maybe a different distro. But I kinda like fedora and how I have everything setup on my laptop

I've done 1-4. Forced to use W on work lappy, but I do absolutely nothing private on that thing and I've put it on a separate LAN segment, wired only. Corporate allows no tampering, so it's about what I can do.

I have only one W partition for some specific HW setup related apps that I have failed to get to work or find alternatives for on Linux. That W was locked down as far as I've managed, but now I just remove the LAN cable and don't bother. If I need to install something, I sneaker-net it.

I just did 1 and 4. Windows only pisses me off on everyone else's computers.
