Voyager
Another vote for Voyager.
I’ve tried mlem and memmy but currently using voyager as it’s been less buggy and has a better ui/featureset for my preferences.
I’m still using Memmy. I know it’s not developed anymore and basically abandoned but it kind of still works besides a few issues. Tried many other apps basically all of them from the image but they do feel off in terms of performance. Would love Voyager and do use it for some posts when Memmy has issues but the scrolling and navigation is not as smooth. I don’t know how the dev did this but this smoothness is on the level of Apollo back then, hence I’m still sticking to it.
Eternity. No, it has not been updated in a year. But it works just splendidly (in my humble opinion).
Edit: Oh, I missed the iOS part. Sorry, I'll get my Plebeian self out of here.
LOL. You never know… someone from the **other ** mobile communities might be reading this so thank you for sharing! 👍
As another pleb I appreciate your comment. I've been looking for something other than Boost which seems to like selling my info quite a lot.
Was using Voyager, but it crashed a lot and didn’t support the iOS native photo features, like pressing on text in an image and being able to translate it.
I switched to Arctic. Crashes way less often than Voyager did, at least for me.
Same here. I cleared the cache on Voyager, deleted, then reinstalled the app and it’s been fine. I still use Artic and like it a lot.
Today I downloaded Mlem and Blorp… So that’s what I’ll be playing with tonight. =]
How’d you go? I have voyager and the crashes/odd loading issues make me want to give something else a go.
Voyager still works for me but it’s a bit slow (which could be anything). I use Arctic when reading articles and posts but I’m not logged in.
Depending on your experience, you have several options. If you want to stay with Voyager, you can do some troubleshooting:
remove the app completely, restart your device, then download it again. Then, I had to do that Σ(-᷅_-᷄๑) again. I was not happy but it eventually worked out. The key ingredient was patience, lol.
However, before you do anything make sure you save your settings. For Voyager, it’s a .JSON file which you can save on your phone (don’t forget where you put it). I saved mine on Session or save it in the Files app on iOS. You will have to log in again so keep that password handy.
Another good thing about the Voyager app is it’s community. You can subscribe, peruse posts or post your issues at: !voyagerapp@lemmy.world
If someone has experienced the same problem, they will help you out. Someone reached out to me when I had problems with Voyager.
I don’t know if Arctic has been abandoned but it still works for me, again not logged in. Mlem for iOS was updated less than a month ago and somebody just praised Blorp and it’s dev team, so you can check those two out if you have time. I haven’t had a chance to play with Thunder yet.
Good luck! If you can, please let me know how it works out. I still come back to this post when I’m interested in an app and prefer opinions from real people.
EDIT: If you use PieFed, the Blorp app supports it.
I fixed a bunch of PieFed bugs this week! Great time to Blorp
And from my friends in the Zip team
Wow, a far more comprehensive reply than I could have hoped for. Thanks a lot for the recommendations!!
Blorp! Blorp! Blorp!
Downloaded it because I like the name. As it turns out, it’s great. You can save your post on Drafts (I found out by accident).
I like it as well. Blorp’s search is impressive and that alone earned a permanent spot on my phone, lol. Here’s the link to the cross post (not sure it was done correctly because I couldn’t see the edited text body):
Let me know if there is anything else I can improve about search. I just rolled out an update this week that makes it even better. Look for v1.9.20 if you haven’t seen it yet.
Still impressive, thank you!
Sorry about that, I just read the “iOS app” part and saw the blorp icon.
I’m on PieFed and the Blorp dev @moseschrute@lemmy.ml has been very patient with answering questions and addressing issues.
I like Blorp because it’s a lot better than the web version regardless of which browser you use, the rest are just perks: saving posts, manage block list, chat, it supports both Lemmy and PieFed, etc.
Can you recycle this post to include us PieFed users? Thanks.
Glad you’re loving Blorp! I have a lot of things I want to add in the next 6 months. Improved accessibility, moderation features, and translations. Feature requests are welcome! In also committed to supporting Lemmy V1 when that drops.
Arctic is primary and Voyager is the backup. Arctic seems to load more remote content when scrolling without having to go into each post to see what’s it’s all about.
Oh wow, it’s the opposite with me. Voyager is my primary and Arctic is my backup. I agree, Arctic loads more content and makes it easier to upload photos (IMO).
Mlem for me. Nice to see other opinions.
