Don't forget if you elect a government official that the U.S. doesn't like, as Brazil did, you will get different treatment as well.

Some say this already happened with Whitlam, given the CIA's comments about Kerr being "their man".

We'll probably never know for sure, but I would bet there would be regime change done here if we ever decide to stop allowing our resources to be plundered by US (and other) companies

No way America would give up Pine Gap.

I think America is more likely to invade us than China is anyway.

@Tenderizer

America invade Australia?
I thought they'd already done that...
... to just about every country.

I meant invade like if they invaded California and overthrew Gavin Newsom (this is not an endorsement of Newsom).

In our case, they'd enter parliament, arrest Albanese, and put Ralph Babet in charge. Probably after the Murdoch runs a whatsitcalled campaign to give plausible deniability to the Americans for doing this. Then again, the CIA has couped our leaders before (although I don't imagine the Americans will be satisfied with Sussan Ley or another ALP member in charge so they'd probably need to do a full military intervention).

The point this article is fair, but as long as Australia is in five eyes I think they're solid.

roll of the dice

They produce dice with only 1s and 2s on them?

[–] javiwhite@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Most GMs just use a coin, but D2 dice do exist.

[–] Lembot_0004@discuss.online 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's 50/50 -- totally too optimistic. You need 5 "1"s and 1 "2". Maybe even a few zeroes.

[–] javiwhite@feddit.uk 4 points 1 week ago

Oh agreed,

We could roll a d20 with only 20 being the passing mark, everything else fails; which gives a 5% success chance... and that still seems optimistic when describing a relationship with America.

Basically, Aus, Canada, UK and every other American "allied" nation should have a magic 8 ball that only returns with "yeah you're fucked" when asked anything about the relationship with America, it's not a question of if, it's a question of when.

There is nothing about us that is trustworthy. Trusting America is as wise as trusting Russia.

[–] poofkaboom@feddit.nl 3 points 1 week ago

Imo it is worse because you trust Russia to be your enemy. US acts like a friend and then fucks you
