I put stuff on top of my shoes but I'm gonna try this for stuff that needs to stay cold

[–] fuckgod@feddit.online 1 points 4 hours ago

The title just made me think of that DHMIS song.

Digital dancing, ain't it... fun.

Source: https://foxes-in-love.tumblr.com/ (somewhere on there, I'm sure; I tried to find a more specific link, and couldn't.)

strategic mind game traps for yourself

Is there something wrong with this method? It seems like a great idea to me. Who knows better what future you will do than you do?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 57 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Completely unironically. This reduces the number of things you have to remember by one and is an objectively good system.

How else am I going to unlock my inner potential?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 26 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Bluetooth has me covered. I just need to fart for my car to start.

[–] Klear@quokk.au 23 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Kinky

~No shame. More impressed.~

This is how I remember lots of things. Move my keys, shoes, glasses, whatever. Makes me think about the reason I moved them and remember what I’m supposed to take with me. This only works if said items always live in the same spot all other times.

Putting things in my shoes is my go to. I don't wear shoes in the house so it's always the last thing I do before going out the door. If I put the thing on the door handle I'll just not see it. I can physically open my door without having to grab something handing from it. If they are physically in my shoes I have to actually grab the thing as the very last thing I do. So it reduces the chance I'll set it down and forget it.

I also only ever wear one pair of shoes unless I'm going to the gym or something. So no real worry of choosing the wrong shoes.

Is ADHD needed for h this?

If so I might need an appointment with a doctor...

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 hours ago

You should ask your doctor instead of Internet strangers, but the symptoms of ADHD are things that everyone experiences. For those with ADHD, the symptoms are frequent and impactful enough that it hinders our ability to function normally.

[–] Nangijala@feddit.dk 2 points 7 hours ago

Not necessarily, but it can be. Are there other areas of your life where you seem to struggle more than the regular person? Do you struggle with organization and time management? Do you experience racing thoughts that disturbs your ability to sleep? Do you have trouble regulating your emotions? Is it hard for you to sit still for extented periods of time or does your thoughts wander when you're sitting still? Do you forget to listen and pay attention to other people talking, to what the words say when you're reading, to the scenes in the movie you are watching?

These are just some of the many, many signs that could indicate that you may need to get tested.

LIVIN'

IN THE

REAL WORLD

[–] 20cello@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

For example, to remind me to take my children to school, I make them sleep in the car.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 9 points 12 hours ago

Also much quieter in the house.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 11 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Everything I need to take with me goes into me shoes.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 4 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

I just finished explaining this too lol. It won't work for people that have a ton of different shoes they choose. Or people that wear shoes in the house (gross). But if you're a primarily single pair shoe person that always puts shoes on as the last thing before leaving. It is THE BEST way to not forget the thing you need. Basically reduces the chance I pick it up and put it down (and forget it) down to 0.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 13 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I have learned that I don't often have it in me to do a whole series of things to accomplish some goal. "Taking a shower", for example. But I do have it in me to look around when I'm moving from one part of the house to another for some singular purpose, and adding one other thing to that trip to prepare myself for some future multi-step task.

So if I've gone upstairs for coffee or food or something, I might pick out some clothes and put them in the bathroom. There, that's something I don't have to do when I finally decide to take a shower - that's something that's not standing in my way anymore. Now, later on, when it crosses my mind that I should take a shower, that task is simpler, which means I might actually do it.

On a good day, I can even double that up, and take garbage out of my office on the way upstairs, get my coffee, pick and set my clothes. All while singing out loud: "It's a little bit better than it was before."

The trick for me was to move my alarm clock a bit earlier in the morning, so instead of going off at 4 and then having every minute matter to get out the door by 5, I moved it to 3:40, so now I can let the dogs out, shower and be ready to go with a few minutes in between tasks to meander a little

And then freak out when you can’t find your keys

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

I've done this. I also do things like move my keys to my left pocket, when I need to remember to take something home from work, normally, my keys are in my right pocket. When I run out of something in the morning that I want to remember to get after work, I'll just take the empty box out with me and toss it on the passenger seat, rather than opening the notes app and adding it to the list. I might not remember that I want to get something after work, but I will see the empty sandwich bag box on the seat, for instance. I have a slow leak in one of my car tires, it only needs filling about once a month or so. When I need to remember to fill it the next time I go out, I'll put something on the hood of my car, so I see it and remember before I leave.

If it's small enough I'll usually put things into the pockets of the pants I'm wearing the next day. I'd straight up forget my wallet everyday if I didn't switch it into tomorrows pants the night before.

[–] tate@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

That's exactly why I started using a purse. I keep it by the door, and I find it very easy to remember to take it with me every time. It has my wallet, house keys, bike lock key, reading glasses, etc. All the things that I have forgotten so many times before.

I'm a guy, btw, and I'm sad that I let societal pressures keep me from purses for so long.

[–] Lycist@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

I used to carry a messenger bag around for this reason, it was nice having so many things with me.

[–] Lycist@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I keep my keys directly next to my wallet.

Shouldn't drive without wallet, can't drive without keys, them being together prevents a lot of problems.

[–] wischi@programming.dev 1 points 8 hours ago

I check for keys, wallet and phone every time I leave an apartment or building. I even do that in my dreams 😬
