All posts must begin with YSK. If you're a Mastodon user, then include YSK after @youshouldknow. This is a community to share tips and tricks that will help you improve your life.

Rule 2- Your post body text must include the reason "Why" YSK:

**In your post's text body, you must include the reason "Why" YSK: It’s helpful for readability, and informs readers about the importance of the content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-YSK posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-YSK posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

If you are a member, sympathizer or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

For further explanation, clarification and feedback about this rule, you may follow this link.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- The majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Unless included in our Whitelist for Bots, your bot will not be allowed to participate in this community. To have your bot whitelisted, please contact the moderators for a short review.

Rule 11- Posts must actually be true: Disiniformation, trolling, and being misleading will not be tolerated. Repeated or egregious attempts will earn you a ban. This also applies to filing reports: If you continually file false reports YOU WILL BE BANNED! We can see who reports what, and shenanigans will not be tolerated. We are not here to ban people who said something you don't like.

If you file a report, include what specific rule is being violated and how.

After listening to Oreskes Naomi on the Center for Humane Technology podcast. Highly recommend it

https://www.humanetech.com/podcast/weaponizing-uncertainty-how-tech-is-recycling-big-tobaccos-playbook

I was reminded by how often uncertainty is not just present, but deliberately manufactured time and time again in our history Whether it’s: Big tobacco avoiding blame for their role in a global health crisis Surveillance capitalism sidestepping regulations to reap more profits The climate crisis stalled by "debate" when the evidence is overwhelming Or the humanitarian crisis in Gaza clouded by denial and blame-shifting.

The tactic is consistent: Powerful agencies have the will and the resources to sow doubt. Confuse the public. Delay change. Protect their power and profits.

It’s a playbook that's refined, repeated, and repurposed across industries, ideologies, and decades.

Yesterday my customer told me electric car is bad for health because the massive amount of battery under the seat will give off electrostatic and give you cancer, which i argue that the fume of the exhaust is much worst to lung and environment, and he simply brush it off saying its only when the exhaust leak, which i'm not even sure how to reply to that because everything is just outlandish if you have just a bit of actual science and mechanical knowledge. Pro-status quo people is just so weird and infuriating at the same time.

these people often fall into it because they are searching for info that assures that thier beliefs are correct, which pseudoscience seem to have an answer for every question they ask, they dont search for actual research papers, which doesnt give them the answers they seek.

Yeah. That person is a stroke survival, which i guess it make sense when he want to learn more on how to be healthy and prevent disease. Unfortunately internet and social media is a cesspool of misinformation and disinformation, and some people tend to take everything everyone with a following(like socmed influenza, which often are corporate mouthpiece) said at face value.

wait till that guy hears about radio waves!

I had a coworker that was in IT, and she sore that microwaves were evil and causing cancer and even when I got her to admit that microwaves are everywhere, even if there is not an appliance focusing them in a single spot... but yeah, some people just cannot accept these things

you have to live in a faraday cage if you want to keep these out of your life... but there will always be nutrenos!

and it works. Sadly it really is one of the most powerful forces in motivation of people. The only thing that diminishes it is critical thinking.

I find the world in general easier to understand without visceral reactionism. Stoicism and cynicism (in the classical sense) are underrated. A pity I didn't learn to curb reactionary tendencies in my twenties.

This is why I took myself off all the other platforms. That way I don't have to see it.

Whose with me
