God damn that is a dumb design

Maybe.
When it’s empty the boys in class would use the same ball of paper, rip it half, soaked in saliva and turn this pencil into a spitball firing machine.

Gross, yes. Definitely effective.

Not if you want to sell to a lot of pens to kids who like fiddling around with things in a time when there's no such things as smartphones.

But in terms of functionality, yeah, they sucked.

You’re absolutely right, those pencils sucked, lol. IMO, it got more use afterwards.

We used it to thread yarn for art class, stick a potato and make a stamp, marker for seedlings, they were collected and reused for arts and crafts, etc.

Spitball firing machine.

Yeah as a capitalist idea they're marvelous. Here's a 20th of a regular pencil. Used all the graphite? Buy a new pencil!

I used to take one out and use the tiniest pencil

Really? For me it was the wrinkly skin, liver spots, bloated midsection, brittle hair, receding hairline, rotting teeth, loss of circulation to extremities, all the aches and pains, and a mountain of responsibilities.

Thanks for making me feel young

You don't have kids maybe - these can still be gotten quite readily.

I'll have to try that paper trick
