The finale was a mixed bag. I liked that they brought the ice truck killer in, but was disappointed his only appearance was at the beginning. felt like he’d be popping up a few times through the episode as dexter wrestled with the situation.

i’m so done with the trope of “hacking” a password by finding numbers of special significance to the target, especially when the target is a billionaire clearly with security on his mind.

the scene with Prater on the table was top notch. Dinklage is legit.

claudette's season-liong arc led to almost nothing in the finale. No confrontation with dexter or harrison or prater or anything. just a a dance sequence, which was pretty anticlimactic imo.

the resolution was a bit too easy, especially with all the cops around. Dexter did his thing with Prater and exited without any trouble except for the dumb password thing.

But in the end it was fine and teased next season. Looking forward to it.

That character was so weird and pointless. They made her out to be some sort of autistic savant but she never even considered Dexter a suspect despite mountains of evidence and another cop screaming at her about it.

Then the semi-romance with her partner that went nowhere.

And the dance scene was just...why? So weird.

Agree on all fronts 👍

But in the end it was fine and teased next season.

I wonder if they will continue with the cameos of the old, dead characters ? Probably not, it's probably a first season thing if I had to guess.
Though, I am looking forward to the (maybe) appearances of the newly dead character haha

Overall that was a fun season, but I think the ending was a little weak. I do however think the whole season was worth the watch and I still had fun.

For instance Dexter getting Harrison to open the door. It has to be a code, Dexter gives the code as the battery is dying, but then retracts it and gives a different code. Dexter isn't sure if Harrison got the code, but the door opens.

That's a tense moment, but the failure is technology. That should have been a moment to highlight Harrison. Harrison should have found a way to communicate by knocking on the door, or somehow Dexter had files that Harrison had previously studied or hell even Harrison getting the whole code except the last number and just guessing correctly, showing how lucky he is.

Dexter was putting his life in Harrison"s hands and he should have showed, in the same way that he infiltrated the party, how useful he is.

The New York Ripper was just some dude, which was weird. Hopefully that gets picked up next season and we see more with the NYC Detectives. Maybe Dexter helps from the outside.

But also...next season is clearly (at least in part) Dexter: Wisconsin as he goes after Eric Stonestreet who is going to be on alert after Prater dies and is outed.

Charley being angry at Prater for having a file on her was weird. First of all he has a file on everyone else, why not her? Also if he has a file on her, who put it together? It seemed like Charley was his only investigator.

In many ways this all felt like a series finale and I'm curious what they're going to do next.

Damn Mimic, we are on the same wavelength.
You just express everything so much better than I do 😆

I honestly didn't care for that vault heist all in all ngl

Is he actually going to go after Eric Stonestreet ?
Or at least, is it actually going to be a big part of next season?
Because Al doesn't seem to be that sophisticated a guy to be a problem at all. Dexter knows his real name. But he doesn't know Dexter's real identity.
Plus he has a family, is he actually going to give it up to save himself ?
Also as a last resort, dexter can just release Prater's file on Al to the public.

Eh I didn't find it that weird. If he has such a dossier on her, he can keep "owning" Charley even after her mother dies. I wouldn't appreciate that either.
Though her revolt did surprise me.

Also if he has a file on her, who put it together?

Yeah that was odd.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He took Al's file, so I assume he's going to go after him. But you're right that it doesn't seem like that interesting of a story.

The "good father" story was already done with Trinity, unless he actually is a good father. My hope was that "Al" was going to be a fake name and part of the challenge was going to be tracking down different murders to find "Al".

But by all accounts Al is Al. Maybe Al will run and move his family after Prater is revealed... But then it becomes Dexter: USA or "Where in the world is Eric Stonestreet?", both of which don't fit the show we just set up which is Dexter: NYC.

Maybe Al returns to NYC to kill Dexter? But that's both not his MO and doesn't seem like a risk he would actually take.

I dunno, it's just a weird loose end. Killing him at the start of next season as an opener is the most likely result... But that wouldn't be satisfying.

[–] GreyCat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, there were a lot of loose ends this season..
I don't think it can be that satisfying, if you think about it, Eric Stonestreet's character was more of a joke character after all.

None of that really matters, he wants to kill Al for the urge.

[–] GreyCat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

No, yeah, I agree with that. I just don't it's going to take that much time for Dexter to do his thing for it to be a big part of next season.

Late post again, even more so for the finale, SORRY 😬

I'm going to be contrarian again, I didn't like this episode and ending all that much. It was a really simple ending without much fanfare or surprises IMO. A lot of people seem to have liked it though.

As I thought a lot of story threads ended up nowhere. Like the NY Ripper, or somehow even more disappointingly with how off-guard I was, Claudette's song.
Not much else to say other than not bad, but could have definitely been better.

Still loved the season quite a bit however, I am happy it was made. Especially seeing cameos of many of the old characters was such a treat.
Wish we could have seen Masuka and Quinn more.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think Quinn, and as a result maybe Masuka, are going to get involved next season.

At first I thought Dexter was going to answer Batista's phone when Quinn called which would have been wild. I have no idea how that would have helped, so it's probably good that it didn't happen, but it was so close.

I'm guessing Quinn is going to visit NYC to collect Batista's body and talk with the NYC Detectives. I forget who has Batista's phone, if Dexter left it behind or not, but either way I'm guessing they'll look into his phone records. The last call Batista's phone made was to Harrison's phone, which will lead to Quinn talking to Harrison and eventually Dexter.

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

this doesn't necessarily matter for TV but i don't think Quinn would be able to do that in new york. he'd need cooperation from NYC police which doesn't seem in the cards at this point.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

The NYC detective who dances to the Bee Gees is definitely going to be all sorts of curious after discovering Prater and his museum. The fact that all that happened right after Batisita showed up and the last time she saw Batista he was in an alleged (and actual) kill room, she is going to have SO many questions. She might have been dismissive of Batisita after talking to Quinn, but after what happened she is going to have some questions.

“I’m exactly who you want me to be.” I liked that bit. Got a little meta there.

[–] GreyCat@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Yeah, that was a funky bit.

Getting in here before there's any comments, I haven't seen this episode yet. But really loving this season, what a comeback for the series!
