Grave of the Firefly
I was thinking of that one at first, but though it is a Ghibli movie, I remembered it technically isn't a Miyazaki film, but instead directed by Isao Takahata.
Miyazaki's WWII Japan film (well, one of them I guess, with The Boy and the Heron also technically being a WWII film) is definitely a lot more whimsical on the surface, despite the serious undertones throughout.
On another related note, I guess Hayao's son Gorou is also another Miyazaki, so that does open up a few more options for those who want to be in a Miyazaki setting that is just mid.
Ahh i didn't know he didn't make that. I thought old ghibli are all miyazaki work.
The Valley of Wind seemed pretty rough too
Same with Princess Mononoke.
There are definitely a few Miyazaki films I think I'd rather not find myself in, actually!
It even has poison swamps. Are we sure which Miyazaki made that one?
🤔 it DID! I forgor!
Well I know where not to be and after that it mostly turned out alright
I forgot about him! Hell yeah watching that tonight
hayao media gets pretty dark though
