They're not even doing the making money part. Generative AI / LLMs are still highly unprofitable, and will cease to exist the moment venture capital funding stops. We're burning the planet for nothing.
Profit does not matter for making money. Not when you’re rich. We’re after big valuations here, projected growth — speculation, baby!
The New York Stock Exchange was purchased by a derivatives exchange. Present-day P&L does not matter. Only whether you can sell your pitch for being a hundred-trillion-dollar company by 2032 well enough to get Forbes, BI, and Gartner to start jerking each other off.
But the AI is enabling a police state and making ultra-wealthy people ultra-super-wealthy! There aren't supposed to be any downsides!
