The Wall Street Bombing (1920)

Thu Sep 16, 1920

On this day in 1920, American anarchists bombed Wall Street in the Financial District of Manhattan, New York City, killing 38 people and seriously injuring at least 143 more.

The Wall Street Bombing of 1920 was the deadliest act of terrorism on U.S. soil at that point, with 181 severe casualties and hundreds more sustaining mild injuries.

Although the perpetrators of the bombing were never found, investigators and historians believe it was carried out by Galleanists (Italian anarchists), a group responsible for multiple episodes of political violence in the U.S.

The following day, authorities released the contents of flyers found in a post office box in the Wall Street area just before the explosion. Printed in red ink on white paper, they said: "Remember, we will not tolerate any longer. Free the political prisoners, or it will be sure death for all of you." At the bottom, the flyers were signed "American Anarchist Fighters".

Damn, the world needs so much more of this.

Does it? What exactly did this achieve? They never caught anyone, but nothing changed, and wallstreet was open the next day. Capital treats people as entirely replaceable, 30 bankers die? 30 new people take their place.

look at what happens when when one or two people get impatient and decide to do some adventurism, there's usually a huge a government crackdown, we gain nothing. At the time i might have felt differently, but from where i sit these actions just feel selfish - the people dont know what they want, I will act for them

this attack took place during a period of a lot of incidents like this. The year before the us govt took the opportunity to deport political radicals (they sent a bunch of russian born anarchists to the ussr and they complained the whole time)

If you want to change the world you need to be organised with other people in an group, join your union, read lenin, get involved with a socialist org, educate yourself and help build a movement based on solidarity and a common struggle

Read Lenin

Read Lenin

Fuck no, the piece of shit turned on Makhno and the Revolutionary Insurgent Army. Lenin is an enemy of the people.

You are right in that you need unity, but you do not need authoritarianism. Anarchism offers unity and liberty. Likewise sustained acts like the above would have an impact, but they were not sustained hence my wishing they were.

Does this count as glorification of terrorism? Mass murder?

Wall Street are terrorists. I favour peaceful action and direct action where peaceful ones no longer are effective, or have the risk of already being arrested.

It is wall street, can be argued they are combatents, funding companies machine gunning striking banana pickers for american fruit co or whoever, I think they killed thousands. Or a million other abuses.

Wall street itself finances and trad3s on terror.

I don't know, it's tagged terrorism. I wasn't aware of this event so I appreciate reading about it, to know what struggling people were doing even if I think it's wrong.

who glorifies? where/how?
