Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Shit... One of my coworkers is giving me one of these to play with...

Guess I'm ordering the socks this weekend...

I love this meme but I always wonder what they’re doing with Linux, like if I had an old thinkpad I think I’d only be as creative as to play movies in VLC πŸ˜”

Using it for learning about cyber security mostly. Reading, browsing, just laptop stuff aside from that.

    [–] pmk@lemmy.sdf.org 29 points 1 day ago

Polishing dotfiles for the color schemes and vimrc. Version controlling those dotfiles. Using neovim to edit the dotfiles configuring neovim. Scripting the tiling wm to open neovim in a way that fits editing the neovim config. Configuring ansible to be able to deploy the neovim dotfiles quickly from codeberg after reinstalling arch because it's the weekend and the kernel had some bloat parts so the whole system felt wrong.

Contributing to opensource libraries that make the whole tech field not collapse.

With mine, I’m working on a few things:

    • Getting better at CLI, specifically tmux and helix. I’m ok at it now, but could use the practice.
    • Learning Rust. It’s nice to not have distractions when I want to focus.
    • Experimenting with some alternative OSs. I’m extremely conservative with my main machine, but I don’t really care about these laptops.
    • Enjoying simplicity.

My boss gave me 5 free T-420s. They all run Mint now.

I'm not even trans, I just like the aesthetic and these socks help me program better

Men may not like it, but this is the ideal IT body.

    [–] Xenny@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

    ....this honestly checks out entirely

plot twist: its the same person

    [–] individual@toast.ooo 30 points 2 days ago (3 children)

except they don't identify as a person anymorre

    [–] Maxxie@piefed.blahaj.zone 20 points 1 day ago

I support their journey into systemhood 😌

This is either really transphobic or really trans positive :p

    [–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Same here. I have a ThinkPad, and don't identify as a person. It just happens that I'm not a femboy (to my knowledge)

    [–] individual@toast.ooo 3 points 9 hours ago

    I can't relate ; I've never had a think pad

    [–] VinesNFluff@pawb.social 49 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I just bought a T580 from eBay. When do the socks and skirt arrive?

    [–] notthebees@reddthat.com 1 points 21 hours ago

    7th or 8th gen Intel?

    [–] Shipgirlboy@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Need to install Arch first and, of course, tell everyone about it. One morning they will just appear on your doorstep. Happened to me, and everyone else I know.

    [–] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I installed EndeavourOS. Does that count?

    [–] kadu@scribe.disroot.org 1 points 8 hours ago

Yes, but the colour of your clothing will be pre-selected for you in a very opinionated matter.

    [–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Uhh… I just picked up a pair of old Thinkpad x130e and have a put Linux on them. If I run Debian instead of Arch and keep the sticker collection small can I avoid having to find socks like that in my size?

    [–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I don't get the stickers thing.

    [–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Using one to cover up logo or brand etc is understandable tho.

    [–] marzhall@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

The stickers thing has always been an "ick" for me. My friends enjoyed torturing me with this reaction to stickered laptops until I sent them a video of a person giving a talk with a massive minion sticker plastered on top of all their other stickers, to which even they were grossed out.

That said, I did have a plan to have a battle jacket made with patches like what the stickers on the laptop would be were I to attend a conference. Damn, I just realized I have attended a conference and completely forgot to follow up on that. Regret.

Some people wanna customize their machine and don't care about opsec.

I would never put stickers on my machine unless it was enough to completely cover it with hex stickers.

I call bullshit. You’re telling me they’re choosing some bullshit knockoff cherry red crap over arguably one of the best laptop keyboards ever created?

    That’s AI man.

Not trans, but soon I'll also have a ThinkPad, where can I get stickers for it? I'm looking into Manjaro instead of Arch though.

    [–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

where can I get stickers for it?

    wherever stickers are sold?

    [–] LiveLM@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Manjaro is kinda crappy tbh, I'd recommend EndeavourOS or CachyOS instead.
