mfw people think lemmy is a free safe space until they discover the biggest instance admins are mostly intolerant, impulsive manchilds UwU
This, with even less recourse to have the ban removed. Eg I was banned by Jordan Lund from politcal/news Lemmys, publicly spoke with him about the ban and was found to not have broken any rules, and he just wont remove the ban. For me doing literally nothing wrong, except having politics he doesn't agree with (feminism and think Trump engaged in election interference, which I had and have reputable sources for), in a politcal sub.
Someone wished Trump would die of disease (and didn't get banned), I wish him a long life and lots of suffering from disease so reddit banned me for advocating for violence (they'd been targeting me)
You might wanna try out the sorting "scaled" when browsing "all" to find new communities (or check out every c/newcommunity that interests you)
But warning: scaled in all can have a lot of porn if you have nsfw on
Thanks for the... the warning.
What did you say?
It was a cringe post where it was absolute pain, and I made a joke saying “the gun feels so good on the side of my head rn”
:(
It’s always good to keep your options open. The fediverse has set up guardrails to prevent things from happening here that have already happened out there but anything can fail. I myself have an account on ramble if shit goes bad here. Always have an escape route. Have no loyalty, that will be abused.
I got a 3-day ban recently for a call to action and plea to arm up and overthrow Trump. (Something along the lines of "We should do as some of our founding fathers intended and arm ourselves to deal with this tyranny")
Tried to get that point across to someone and they thought it was about how guns are used in self defense. How i learned there was a sub dedicated to cheering people shooting others in the name of self defense
Say the wrong thing here and you can get banned too.
the wrong thing
Rules exist.
Like what?
Allow me to demonstrate…
“RUST IS THE BEST PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE AND USING ANYTHING ELSE IN 2025 IS IRRESPONSIBLE!”
Depends on your instance and the community you're posting in.
For example, on lemmy.world a user might get warned or banned for openly celebrating the shooting of Brian Thompson. (I forget exactly where they draw the line, but it's an "advocating violence" thing)
Or here, a user on lemmy.ml might get banned for bigoted statements, even normal things that plenty of people don't even notice are bigoted because it's "common sense" in their own country.
But you've got to be pretty damn intolerable to get banned from more than a few instances. Like, actual Nazism.
I said I was my kids landlord in the wrong thread and got banned for 30+ days because I was evil landlord. Trust me my kids are quite happy with how cheep their rent is.
Yeah it's gotten bad on reddit
I write some bad word about Andrew tate House and get all my accounts band in one day . Fuck Reddit
I got a temp ban from reddit. Not cool enough, apparently.
Me too. I commented on a post about a shooting and sarcastically asked how folks were going to blame it on trans people this time. Permabanned!
It's not really that much better here. People jumping the gun constantly.
Depends on the instance really.
The irony. You're posting on a comm in the most ban-happy instance with an account registered on the other most ban-happy instance.
The censorship has gone mad on Reddit. I was a user there before the whole Digg migration, and it's been such a wonderful ride. It had to end at some point, though.
I'm just at a point where it's genuinely impossible to have a conversation there without having your comments removed, the thread locked, or downvoted to oblivion for not joining in to whatever the masses are yapping about.
Less of a town square and more of a mob of idiots surrounded by bots.
It can happen here too
I’ve been banned from a community on here before because I’m sure someone misread my comment.
My comment was clearly aligned with everyone else on the post, but I still got banned and mods did not respond to my messages about getting unbanned.
I've been banned from several communities here for downvoting in one. At least that's what the messages said. Got several bans for communities I didn't even know existed 😂.
Are you new? Cause there are sensitive ban happy mods here too
Apparently you haven't been to Reddit in awhile.
