Rememember when memes were just goofy nonsense and not a vehicle for white supremacist ideology?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Remember when computers were mainly used by researchers instead of post-gamergate 4chan 15-year old racists?

Pepperidge Farm rembers.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

member when computer was a job title?

[–] abfarid@startrek.website 69 points 2 days ago

The proper response is:

Rage comics were so much better than wojaks

[–] lessthanluigi@lemmy.sdf.org 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

wojaks have such a more mean-spirited energy than Rage comics. wojaks are fsr more designed for meme propaganda as well.

I miss the more nicer internet. Now it just feels like one giant soup of psyops

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 days ago

I mean, it was also mean from what I saw of it, just in a less organised way.

Attaching onions to belts was also superior to the yams kids attach to their belts these days.

[–] moody 3 points 2 days ago

Even the yams are better than the Labubus on kids' belts.

What's with the thing in Sam's eyes?

[–] Steve@startrek.website 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Meta. Its geordie’s visor

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ha, almost missed Rikers beard on Daniel.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He did grow a beard at some point, right? Although I think it was different.

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Correct. And yes, it looked different than Rikers beard.

[–] PartyAt15thAndSummit@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What is Agent Scully's dad doing in the first panel?

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It's clearly a shot from Stargate. I guess one of the guys from Stargate was also in X-files, then.

Why they've edited it together with Star Trek is anybody's guess, but it's probably just for the chaos of it.

[–] charonn0@startrek.website 2 points 1 day ago

It's actually the Stargate characters edited into a Star Trek meme.

[–] falseWhite@programming.dev 5 points 2 days ago

Unless this meme itself is 8 years old.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 2 days ago (3 children)

2012 was almost 15 years ago.

That's 1.5 decades.

[–] beneeney@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Stop stop stop stop stop stop stop

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

2005 was 20 years after 1985, like the bowling for soup song.

Guess how many years it's been since 2005?

[–] jdf038@mander.xyz 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My 40 year old back hurts.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I suggest a nice comfortable chair, a blanket, and some high quality ice cream.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That sounds awesome but now my back and the chair are all sticky. What next?

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

I'm not bathing you. Enjoy your ants.

[–] orhtej2@eviltoast.org 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I reject your reality and substitute my own!

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

Am I missing an eyebrow?

Memes can only be outdated once nobody can relate to them.

Like the oldest known joke on earth. It's not much of a joke since nobody alive today understands the punchline.

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The donkey and your mother? What's so hard to understand about that?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

🤨

I'm talking about the one with a dog going into a bar and saying "I'll have one, too."

Termite walks into a bar and says "hey, where's the bartender?"

[–] Ofiuco@piefed.ca 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Still better than AI slop... By a lot.

[–] Osprey@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Handmade quality vintage memes.

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Never thought I'd live in a world where people were judged by the freshness of their memes.

(Old memes are better anyway.)

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It was F7U12 that got me on reddit back in 2011....

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

Yeah I used to love f7u12 back in the day. Then all of a sudden they just stopped being funny. For me it was like a switch being thrown.

[–] Atomic@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh god, no, please no. Those were dark days... I do not wish to go back. Our path lies ahead of us, not behind.
