Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

It's probably a toss-up between Lies of P and Sekiro for me. Sekiro was the game I had previously played a lot of over several playthroughs and a platinum trophy. Primarily because of the gameplay being superb and exactly up my alley.

However, Lies of P might beat Sekiro in terms of playthroughs by now. I've played on PS4, PS5 and PC, platinum trophy included, at more than 100h in total. Firstly, of course, because of the gameplay, and secondly because of the theme and story of the game.

What about you?

When I first played the original Dark Souls I bounced hard. Didn’t get it and got tired of getting curb stomped. But the atmosphere and mystery were too hard to ignore so I picked it up again a few months later and have been hooked on Soulslikes ever since with at least 100 hours in all the Fromsoft Soulslike offerings.

Dark Souls 1 is still my most played by hours though probably a significant part of that is drinking a coffee while I waited to queue for co-op (their netcode was miserable and there weren’t a ton of players anymore when I started). I am probably nearing that total over PS5 and PC for Elden Ring now if I combine the totals. It is absolutely the masterpiece everyone says it is and is everything I would have wanted from the early games.

Nightreign is already competing though and I hope they keep adding to it and refining. I am starting to believe that is the perfect form of the genre, combining soulslike and roguelite mechanics.

Hum, by number of replays, bloodborne. by time spent, I surely have more hours clocked in Elden Ring now. Too many maybe ٩(。•́‿•̀。)۶ ....but but,! I've been diversifying lately, yay me!

By playthroughs Bloodborne. By time probably now Elden Ring. I just finished a playthrough yesterday (damn the Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending is good). I’m most likely starting a new Elden Ring playthrough today or tomorrow. I’m still having so much fun with the game.

Sameee, though I haven't played Elden Ring in a few months I'm starting to get an itch to try a spellcaster build, since I've never done one. I thought about giving pvp a try since I haven't done that as well, buuut aahh idk I don't think I'll be good for that.

Sekiro, because it's the only one I managed to finish twice. I have second play-throughs on Bloodborne, DS3 and hollow knight, but didn't finish any of them due to difficulty.

I didn't know hollow knight had ng+ :O still haven't finished my first run but good to know!

Sorry, there is no ng+, there's a boss rush arena with harder combat though.

I just made a fresh profile because I wanted to explore the world again, and never bothered to defeat the final boss.
