What is enshittification?

The phenomenon of online platforms gradually degrading the quality of their services, often by promoting advertisements and sponsored content, in order to increase profits. (Cory Doctorow, 2022, extracted from Wikitionary) source

The lifecycle of Big Internet

We discuss how predatory big tech platforms live and die by luring people in and then decaying for profit.

Embrace, extend and extinguish

We also discuss how naturally open technologies like the Fediverse can be susceptible to corporate takeovers, rugpulls and subsequent enshittification.

I wasn't expecting a dark pattern evangelist here on lemmy, am I in the wrong profession? Is everyone in programming a big tech cuck?

This isn't a dark pattern and you are slightly deranged. A dark pattern is a type of design that tricks, coerces, or manipulates you into acting contra your own interests.

Its crap like making a service easy to sign up for but damn near impossible to cancel not anything that you don't like.

That doesn't make it a dark pattern. Anything you don't like isn't a dark pattern. Even many people not liking something doesn't make it a dark pattern. It's not manipulating you to do something against your interest
