For those seeking out a federated and open alternative to Tumblr, Wafrn is looking extremely promising. It can speak both ActivityPub and AT Protocol, offers a ton of interesting features and customization, and focuses on making an incredibly fun experience.

Are we able to subscribe using Lemmy/piefed/ect to creators?

You can follow them from MBin, at it supports following users. I am pretty sure you can't from the other two, as they only support groups

Lemmy doesn't have a concept of a post that isn't attached to a community. It's probably possible to post to Lemmy from Wafrn by tagging a community as it is with Mastodon.

You can follow Wafrn users from Mastodon, Misskey, Pleroma, etc....

I hope one day the Lemmy developers arrive at the idea that a person could be a community, somewhat like the way Mastodon treats communities as users. It's a confusing generalisation, but it works.

Reddit has that, and the ability to follow a user and get notifications when they post. I'm not sure it's widely used there, but I think it would be a decent feature to add to Lemmy.

I'd love that idea. Keep it private by default, but if people want people to follow them sure! If they want people talking on their page, sure. Etc etc

Honestly better that the mastadon/Twitter model to me anyways. Like there are few personalities I follow, and their communities are great. I don't really want disconnected no context verbalizing though like Mastadon/shitter does.

I personally dislike the user/profile centric approach of micro-blogging platforms like mastodon. Platforms like lemmy being based on communities instead is the single reason they are my social media of choice.

Remote profiles appear to show up, it might be possible to also remotely pull in posts. I didn't see Subscribe functionality in Lemmy, but maybe PieFed or MBin support that.

I was wondering, cause it mentioned bluesky. I was wondering if it worked on ap or at.

Mastodon, Friendica, Misskey, Bluesky, PeerTube, and even WordPress all managed to show up!

First time I may be seeing both in one stack.

It's activitypub, but can be configured to also use AT as well.

[–] mesamunefire@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago

That's awesome. I was hoping both would be supported at some point.

[–] deadsuperhero@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, Wafrn uses both protocols, and basically runs its own PDS and AppView.

Increased customizability from HTML and CSS support? Sign me up!

But iopq says it requires frequent blood tests 🩸😱

[–] iopq@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Do not recommend. I'm on apixaban now because it doesn't require frequent blood tests
