Part of the reason its so scary is the soundtrack makes heavy use of binaural beats which can produce emotions like fear
It's a show stopper for sure. First time I watched it seriously fucked my head up. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original, is up there too.
Martyrs is still the only movie i ever had to stop watching and find out the ending first before i could continue.
