I wouldn't say this is world news. It's barely even US national news tbh. It would be very appropriate in the midwest.social instance though if you haven't put it there.

The Michigan one. Made me laff.

[-] girlfreddy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I put it in world news because recent reports of other nations' movements from conservative to far right wing stupidity seems to be following America's path.

Just thought to put it here as a warning of what's to come.

world news has always meant American news on reddit

[-] thejml@lemm.ee 19 points 1 year ago

Really? I used to follow /r/worldnews and my experience every time someone posted a US story, even if it seemed world relatable, it was quickly either taken down or downvoted to oblivion with people yelling that there was /r/usnews for that.

I found it a bit off putting, even if it was accurate most of the time.

That's what made /r/anime_titties so great, only non-US or clearly world news allowed

Not a huge fan of the GOP ramping up political violence, even against their own members.

Pretty dangerous.

[-] MostlyBirds@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago

We're far beyond the point of no return on that. They're going to be violent no matter what, so we should celebrate when they target each other instead of, well...literally anyone else.

[-] cogman@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

We are certainly further than I like. My fears are more around what starts happing at the poll booth. Or during vote counting. I worry about what starts happening to election workers.

Yeah, it's pretty terrifying. Luckily, we can all still vote by mail here in Wisconsin, so we don't have to physically go to the polls, but the republicans have managed to put some heavy barriers in the way of it in the last couple years, even though their attempts to ban it outright have failed.

My city used to have a mobile ballot dropoff truck, but they sued and got it banned, and they've also banned dropping off ballpts for other people. If you're disabled and/or don't have reliable access to transportation, and understandably don't want to trust the republican-crippled USPS with your ballot, voting has become much more difficult, if not entirely impossible.

Spicy:

Mark DeYoung, who chairs the Clare County Republican Party, said he heard Chapman’s attempt to enter the room and opened the door after seeing someone flip him the bird through a window. “He kicked me in my balls as soon as I opened the door,” DeYoung said of Chapman, speaking to The Detroit News by phone from the emergency room.

... and...

Chapman also said that during the confrontation, he removed his glasses. “When you see me taking my glasses off, I’m ready to rock,” Chapman said.

Who coulda thunk a bunch of egoistical policies would lead to a divided party?

But uniting Republican is simple, you just need to bring a black person, gay person or a... woke (?) person into the room.

[-] SexualMastadon@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

GOP’s really making keeping Michigan blue easy these days.

Hats off to em.

[-] Grant_M@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 year ago

Let them fight!

[-] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 year ago

It is times like this when we realize just how wise Senator Lindsey Graham has the ability to be. His 'if we nominate Donald Trump, we will lose, we will be destroyed and we will deserve it' quote is so true just his timing was off.

[-] StinkyDave@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

These children are in charge of important things.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Sounds pretty on-brand for the GOP.

[-] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

Idiocracy is quickly becoming the reality.

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, didn't somebody get kicked in the balls in that movie? If not it would have totally fit.

[-] Spacebar@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

When you let really crazy into the crazy party, this is what you get.

[-] MadWorks@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

"I dunno about you, Bob, but I think I'm going to vote for the Kicking Other People in the Balls party this election".

[-] rehabdoll@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

“ So Chapman said that he and others gathered outside the meeting location and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.”

Jesus fuckin Christ. These people are damaged. What a deranged thing to do.

[-] thisbenzingring@wirebase.org 6 points 1 year ago

They probably all tried to be the loudest while looking around and taking notes on who isn't participating enough.

[-] MelonTheMan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

They're just trying to remember all those big words in the pledge

[-] Marxine@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Few things please me more than seeing conservatives damaging each other.

[-] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

GOP just gunning for a full-on Idiocracy future...
