I’ve been a dues paying (if not always very active) member of DSA since forever and I really think it’s the only alternative to the Democratic Party. They (or we) run candidates in primaries but operate within the unfortunate reality of a 2-party system. If you’re to the left of establishment democrats, it’s the most effective place to put your energy even if it’s not perfect.

And now centrists will claim that the DSA are all Republican Russian fascist Chinese child shill bots.

Well, continue to claim.

The DSA in my memory always endorses the Democratic candidates in the general, and tend to endorse the most progressive candidates in the primary. Because Biden is running unopposed, the primary election doesn’t matter except if it sends a signal.

They're already calling leftists/DSA Hamas supporters.

[-] DarkGamer@kbin.social -1 points 8 months ago

Getting the US to abandon Israel would greatly benefit Hamas and Iran, it would be essentially ceding the region to our national enemies.

Am I aware of this? Yes. However, there are lines of when support just isn't tenable. We seen that Iraq and Afghanistan. If you're trying to get Millenials/Gen Z to support Israel, that can only happen with policy changes. On my end, it's getting rid of settlers and actually punishing those that supported settlers.

Maybe find a way to not "cede" the region that doesn't involve genocide.

[-] agitatedpotato@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Which is hilarious because anyone I've ever organized with calls the DSA a sheepdog orginazation that always just pushes you to vote for established democrats. These are card carrying members who were part of the rose caucus I think they called it. That organization is pretty moderate even for demsocs.

Nope, the DSA is legit & actually runs other campaigns besides Presidential hail Mary's, unlike every single other 3rd party.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the largest leftist political organization in the country, endorsed the push for “uncommitted” votes in Super Tuesday primaries Sunday.

“Until this administration ends its support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza and delivers a permanent, lasting ceasefire, Joe Biden will bear the responsibility for another Trump presidency,” the DSA wrote Sunday in a statement on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Led by Arab American community leaders and progressive activists, and backed by notable politicians including Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), the “uncommitted” movement mobilized tens of thousands of Democrats in the state who disagree with Biden’s response to the war in Gaza.

The group also shared resources for “uncommitted” efforts in Washington, Minnesota and Colorado, all of which go to polls in the coming weeks.

Vice President Harris said Sunday that Israel has “no excuses” to stop the “humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza, some of the administration’s harshest rebukes of the Israeli government.

President Biden announced Friday that the U.S. will airdrop humanitarian aid into Gaza as negotiations continue over a temporary cease-fire in the conflict.

Well I guess I no longer consider myself a supporter of the DSA. I'm incredibly disappointed by the American left's response to this conflict, they seem to want to simp for belligerents that don't share their values at all and throw the allied country that does under the bus.

Calm down, it's for primaries.
