Finished this one up last week, it's actually designed by myself as I've been trying to learn a bit more about pixel art and specifically working in isometric. It definitely could've done with being darker under the bench but whatever! Proud of it anyway.

Husband is obsessed with pixel art as a medium and he thinks this is just about the coolest project ever, so it can go on display in his office where I don't have to look at that glaring lack of bench shadow ๐Ÿ˜„

It's so cute ! The colours are really nice, it has a bit of a stardew valley vibe, I think. Don't mention the lack of shadow, nobody notices.

Thanks! I stood for ages in the local shop, getting weird looks as I held various shades of green up against the WIP to pick the right ones. Glad that apparently paid off ๐Ÿ˜‚

I believe some painter said you can go to the paint store, and they have 100 different shades of greens, and not the one you want. So that tracks. And no, I don't remember who that was or googled it properly.

And if anyone ever asks about it, just say that the shadow went "off the block" toward the back of the bench.

Same, immediately thought of SDV! I love it, it's such a lovely and peaceful scene. Great work!

Cross-stitch is completely outside my zone of interests, but I agree with your husband this is absolutely cool. I love the subject matter juxtaposition with style, you didn't go with something impossible in reality. Fantastic work.

Cross stitch is just physical pixel art, after all. Maybe they're not such different interests when you really think about it! Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š

I find the main difference is that you can't add backstitch to pixel art. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hmm. Combo pixel art with vector outlines. That could be a style ๐Ÿค”

Displaying it would be kind of tough unless you used oversized faux pixels, though. I mean, ultimately everything that goes on a normal screen is translated to raster.

I love it! It looks like something from a scene in the Sierra adventure games I used to play back in the 90s!

Pixel art is hopefully the skill that is going to come in most useful for my two main loves in life: crafts, and gamedev. So this is encouraging, hah, thanks! ๐Ÿ˜„

Well it looks like you are doing an amazing job!

In other news, my bundle of 50 cheap CXC skeins is arriving tomorrow, so I should be able you post a comparison with the DMC floss within a week!

Note that I said should lol

This is great, it gives a real SIM City vibe.

Oh I was obsessed with those games as a kid so will definitely take that!

Beautiful! I love it. I want to sit there and watch the world go by. I didn't even notice the lack of shadow until you mentioned it.

[-] thegiddystitcher@lemm.ee 2 points 8 months ago

Thanks :) It's actually (loosely) based on a path near our house that follows the route of what used to be a railway. Irl everything is a bit more grey, but it's still a nice place to sit and make friends with the constant parade of dogs walking by.
