Help Choosing (lemmy.world)
submitted 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) by Pungentstentch@lemmy.world to c/gaminglaptops@lemmy.world

Hi, I have the option to buy either of the laptops on the picture at the same price. That is the only difference between them, GPU and display.

What would you suggest, the 4090 with worse display or the 4080 with the better display?

EDIT: I finally bought the 4080 version, thanks to everyone for their input, it helped a lot.

There’s no wattage on the 4090. 175W 4080 will outperform 150W 4090, though the 4090 has more ram, which is making this trickier.

Personally I’d take the 4080. Although I use my laptop for more things than game. More vertical pixels are nice for code editing. You’re not going to max all settings on the most recent games on either anyway.

Thank you for your reply, I'll probably go for the 4080, but I'm still torn about it. I think no matter what I choose I will regret it later, lol.

It depends on what you plan on doing with it.
Personally, I would go with the 4090 since it's the best mobile GPU out there and 165 Hz is fast enough for 99% of people. The lower resolution is a bit of a downgrade, but at that scale you most likely won't notice much of a difference.

Thank you for your input, I'm having a hard time making a choice.
