Nothing like some kitty kankles to celebrate the holidays. Hope everyone has a relaxing holiday!

At least his X isn't marking the spot during my video calls. (If you know, you know.)

It's actually not bad!

Hooman, are you okay? (startrek.website)

This is his concerned face.

He said, right before going back to sleep.

I snapped this photo of a Not My Cat in Venice several years ago. The kitty's serious look kills me every time.

Hey hooman, its Caturday (startrek.website)

"Caturday means you'll worship me and give me cat treats, yes?" - my cat, probably

Holy shit, I didn't realize Car Talk with Martok was a whole series. Martok engaging in Darmok style conversation is amazing.

Can supermodels be the cat equivalent of grumpy old men?

This guy is super chill and wants all the pets he can get, and he doesn't mind being the subject of weird pictures.

He loves to sleep so much that he really is my spirit animal.

Making the font size adjustable requires hundreds of millions of dollars of investment! /s

I'm not surprised at the statistics. Redditors using third party apps were probably more likely to be hardcore users and contributors and not just consumers/lurkers. Taking away those apps without a suitable replacement was a totally braindead move, especially when your official app is inferior to almost every single third party app out there.

HOLY CRAP, I AM SO GLAD I WENT INTO THIS SPOILER FREE!!!1!

Someone posted earlier this week that it looked like Captain Batel was having a really bad day, and yup, she definitely was. My heart sank when she revealed the Gorn egg infestation. My money's on her being the sole "main" character casualty from the events of this episode.

I didn't know Scotty was going to show up so that was a total surprise. Finding out he was Pelia's perfect student who somehow flunked made all the sense in the world, ignoring the obvious small universe complaints.

I LOVED all the effects shots of the Cuyuga's debris field. I initially thought crashing the remains of the saucer section into the Gorn jammer was complete overkill, like throwing a dinner plate at a toothpick, but then realized the jammer must have been absolutely massive and far away from the settlement. It looked like it was relatively nearby upon initial viewing which didn't appear to be the case considering the explosion from when the saucer section hit it.

That cliffhanger, wow. I pray that they have the second half already written and aren't going to do like TNG and wait to write the conclusion. It was mentioned in the TNG Companion that the writers only wrote the first part of their season ending cliffhangers and waited until closer to filming to write and finalize the second part which doesn't seem like the best way to develop a strong resolution.

I love SNW so much. It's going to be an agonizing wait until the new season, probably 2025 at this point? Argh.

EDIT: I swear I didn't read any posts in this thread before posting my thoughts. I'm glad and amused to see we Trek fans had many of the same reactions!

Sisko punches Q

This instance is my first real foray into the Fediverse (aside from an unused Mastodon account) and it's been smooth sailing compared to the issues some other places have suffered through.

Chicago has a weirdly high number of mattress chain stores. There's a stretch near me that has 3 of them in the span of 4 blocks. They've all been there for awhile and there's rarely ever anyone in them. No way these are legit businesses considering how often people buy mattresses.

I didn't think they'd skip the opportunity to give us singing Klingons but the end result was just...wow. chef's kiss

I absolutely love Pike's "exasperated" face. It's possibly a bit overused this season but it cracks me up every single time because it's how I'd probably react if I were in his shoes and it's so unlike how the previous Starfleet ship captains would react, even when the situation fully merited it.

I don't understand the "slowly" part at all. I joined Lemmy about a month ago when Reddit third party apps went dark. Lemmy was largely a ghost town then, with most of the relatively mainstream communities I sought out having newest posts that were days or even weeks old. That desolation was gone after the first few days, with a ton more engagement from others who migrated over and a steady stream of new content. The communities I frequent have grown by leaps and bounds since then. "Slow" isn't a word I'd use to describe Lemmy's growth.

Nope, Wesley's resemblance to Jim Carrey's Kirk (from In Living Color, for those too young to know the reference) was the first thing I thought about too. Fortunately Wesley is doing a fantastic job making the Kirk role his own.

I laughed more times in that one episode than I have during hundreds of previous Trek episodes COMBINED. Trek comedy has never landed with me which makes this the best Trek comedy ever by a large margin. Angsty Spock and the crew's reaction to him were genuinely funny, with a special nod to Pike's "WTF" facial reactions in the background during the ceremony.

Going in spoiler-free and without having read people's opinions in this thread, I'm going to guess this is going to be one hell of a polarizing episode. But one I really enjoyed, so there's that.

Me: "Man, why is someone tempting us with a screenshot like this."

sees who posted this

Also me: "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"

Day 1 purchase when it comes out. I can't wait!

Wow, these SNW writers really bring it each week, don't they? Not to say every episode is perfect but I've found every single one to be very entertaining and exactly what I want out of Star Trek in 2023. The combination of standalone stories mixed with underlying character development and arcs is perfect.

As for this week, the idea of encountering a planet that could make you forget everything was weirdly creepy, if not a bit implausible. Even if this wasn't her showcase episode, I grinned at Ortega's "I AM THE PILOT!" moment. Also enjoyed the away team being out of sorts on the planet which I thought was well done and not an action overdose like the season opener.
