Peertube is essentially mastodon or lemmy with videos. Its trivial to set up compared to the other two. I run a private instance so I cant talk about the rate of issues but from an experienced admin perspective, its no more of a problem to set up and run than the others.

But I too think that long term it would be great to have more user friendly setups as to enable less experienced folks to host it.

Please don’t kill me but does anyone else find this story missing some steps?

Like if vpns are actually legal (which they should be imo) and he has not done anything wrong why dont we get the legal reason for this confiscation?

I can understand that china is brutal but they will definitely veil their anti information countermeasures a bit better than „you used vpn! That is illegal! Pay all your income! Although vpns are legal here!“

It does read weird.

Don’t worry about the bullies. You‘ll barely ever meet them. Except if you ever make it to the board of directors which is unlikely. (Not you personally, just statistics)

I listened to the song for reference. I guess this goes a lot deeper than robbing a liquor store.

I agree. Competitive games and code injection don’t mix but for those that are not competitive (i.e. minecraft), code injection is important.

Hi, I agree that there needs to be discussion.

But let’s be honest here. If meta made a lemmy/mastodon instance we would probably defederate them as well since every bit of data is for their financial gain and nothing else.

I don’t see how the worlds master manipulator and anti trust poster child is even remotely worth discussing about. We have established time and time again that „meta bad“. Why would we now not just accept the fact?

I‘m always the guy on the right. As a gifted, autisic person, I have a special view on things. I usually get the boot after 18 months because the boss or some other person in power doesn’t like me optimizing stuff. „We are not used to change our ways.“ was one sentence I often heard when being let go.

18% reduction (max) for learning a different language than html? Hard pass.

Especially with css you can give most of those small web design studios (and most wordpress plugins) a run for their money.

I think it’s unnecessary to learn some obscure „alt-sub-language“ if the improvement is so little.

Let’s have a bit more of a objective discussion here:

Privacy advocates are trying to keep you from being transparent to corporations, law enforcement and criminals because they see the patterns that can lead to very bad outcomes. E.g. people being falsely targeted by ai face recognition that was on the news recently

„Stans“ are referring to people identifying with something. In the case of firefox, people identify with privacy and freedom. Those are elemental parts of democracy. The opposite side here is advocating on behalf of corporations who rake in billions in profit, buy up land and real estate, control markets and you can actually see those being subject to lawsuits both by the government and citizens for breaking the law, selling your data and going full send on their profits instead of caring about the communities they operate in.

So, the term „well informed“ is kind of self defeating here as gobbling up corpo koolaid is not really „informed“. It’s also the same that conspiracy theorists say. Actually listening to the arguments is what does the trick.

I can relate. People like you are the structural pillars of our society.

I‘m not familiar to the laws concerning cultural heritage but some of the museums should be partially tax funded, no?
