I like that this one is simple enough that even I, with my very terrible German, can understand it 😃

Rex Murphy, the socially-malignant gas-pump-fellating pseudo-intellectual who claimed to love Canada but was really just perpetually daydreaming about a socially conservative Randian right-wing dystopia, has finally and permanently shut the fuck up at 77.

Fixed that for you, NatPo.

Oh no. How terrible. 🙄

Anyway, how's everyone doing today?

There are school-aged people on Lemmy? I assumed the vast majority are older millennials (with a touch of gray), who are also Linux users, not straight, and have some level of obsession with Star Trek and — God knows why — beans.

He'd end up disappointed that her pussy doesn't bubble during sex, anyway.

Is this Toronto? This looks a lot like Toronto. If you're from Toronto you should know that there is a city by-law that states if a cute dog is tied to your bike and you take a picture of it and submit it to Lemmy that you then legally get to keep the dog. Just FYI.

I love reading the comments on Mac Rumour articles when it's negative news for Apple's platforms or services. To paraphrase: "Vulcan bad!" "Lazy Devs!" "But they support Linux?" and "What a dumb business decision!"

Yes, Apple zealots, Valve is absolutely going to support your vendor-specific graphics API on a platform that they aren't making much money from, and will continue to support and test that platform for years, operating as a charity because they love Apple so much 😂

What's really cool is seeing actual conversations taking place. I'm actually able to comment here and I'm not immediately being drowned out by being one of ten thousand comments or constant contrarian trolling.

It has also totally replaced Reddit for me. It reminds me a lot of the old internet and a bit of early Reddit. It's a really cool experiment, and if it continues as-is I will be thrilled, and if not then I will forever have a sense of pride of what everyone here accomplished. It's very cool.

As always, if a headline is in the form of a question, the answer is: No.

As it was a few years ago, the only "cure" is bone marrow transplants from somebody with the gene variant that is resistant to HIV. And bone marrow transplants, since in their application need to wipe out your existing immune system, are riskier than just continuing to be on ART.

The other potential cures in the article have only been tested on monkeys and mice, and even if they end up working on humans that's many, many years away.

The article is kind of a waste of time if you already know about the bone marrow application, as expected. Actually, that's kind of harsh, it's mostly positive, which we need more of, but from a science news perspective there's not much there.

PP actually lucked out there and doesn't need to plan to take action on it because the provinces are already doing a fine job of dismantling their respective healthcare systems

So the Conservative party, for the next election, offers: a) blowing up the economy to further enrich the 1%; and b) fucking over trans people. Wow, that is so appealing 🙄

(This is my first post sent from Sync, so hopefully I don't mess this up too badly...)

This might already exist, or might just generally be a stupid idea, but here we go:

I share images from Lemmy / Sync pretty frequently, primarily as direct images to Facebook Messenger. However, Messenger doesn't like WEBP files, and quite a few instances seem to be using WEBP instead of JPEG or PNG.

It'd be a time-saver (literally minutes a day!) and reduction of friction if there was an option to convert WEBP to JPEG on-the-fly when sharing. Right now I have to check the image format, and if it's a WEBP I need to download and edit / re-save before sharing.

I was going to say this would be a nice value-add for Ultra, but I'm already subscribed 🤷🏻‍♂️

I bet this issue doesn't actually affect that many users (stupid North America and its reliance on Facebook Messenger), but it does ever so slightly annoy me, so I figured might as well shoot my shot and make a feature request.

It's annoying enough that if Sync was OSS I would have submitted a PR already.

All that said: Sync is great and I'm so happy it was transposed from Reddit.
