It would look cleaner, but the glue types I have thought of either would not be very compatible with the material or not be strong enough given the fact that usage puts strain on those bits. And I kind of like the style.

That Firefox window? That usually is not how people set up their browser. It neither has nothing to with GNOME (or Cinnamon, which is used on the screenshot).
Please take a better look at the photos. Only the hinges are stapled (they do not penetrate through anything given how thick the case is).
The cardboard is in between the flooring vinyl to give the case some rigidity. BTW, the bought case i used before was cardboard and some kind of synthetic fabric.

I did use a regular stapler indeed. This vinyl was not particularly thick so with some effort that worked.
I might, albeit that I would word it friendlier than that.
