Hmm I forgot about nice memes. I'll talk to the mods there and see how that's been going.

What I'm afraid of is what counts as political. Thats a very very slippery slope. I don't want to make any call that ends up with me on 'ye power trippin bastards' lmao.

I 100% understand your opinion on not wanting to engage with politics, I'm not subbed to any political comm and avoid them like the plague. Ive posted over 3k posts on Lemmy by now and never one on a political comm. I, like you, am here to be happy.

Also my community is NOT my own. It is very much the communities. All decisions for rules are the communities, as has been the case for all other communities I mod. You hold as much power here as I do, 1 vote.

Also thank you for taking your time to try to improve this place. ❤️

Ah OK. I don't think controlling conversations in comments is practical anyways. That is something that I'm certainty against and don't think anyone else is going to care for.

No community can or will be completely free of politics, especially on Lemmy. But atleast this is one of the instances that isn't very political so you'll see it less often.

Also that's just my other account that I took a poll from.

If it ever gets overbearing I'll add a rule to avoid this discussions at best.

Hey.

I understand the frustration. Communities like this aren't meant to be politically charged. In fact a vast majority of posts here are not politically charged.

You're right if you know the original version is political, the comments will likely have some political discussion. And It's an even bigger shock if you didn't know the original.

The primary content is the post itself. So long as that is an antimeme I'm willing to accept it. The discussions within I just want civil no matter the content so long as they abide by instance rules.

I would be willing to change rules to suit the community. You're the first to being this up and I thank you for it, I'll now keep my eyes peeled for anyone else unhappy. If I notice a trend we'll hold a vote to add a new rule.

On a personal level, I'd just recommend disengaging from anything overtly political you see. Especially if you know what the original was.

Thank you for dealing with this maturely and not getting into arguments.

PinkyCoyote.

I’ve had two major issues with these guys. While not necessarily worth defederating everyone, I really don’t want to deal with hexbear because:

  1. ALL of their content is political. When they first showed up on my feed, I watched what posts/communities came up and how their users interacted on non hexbear posts. I’ve done my best to remove all politics from my social media. These guys only talked about politics and would go to other communities to turn a normal conversation political.
  2. Everything was extreme and obnoxious. I don’t understand why everyone keeps calling them polite. There was a constant “you’re with us or you’re against us”/“my beliefs are always right” behavior that was really annoying, especially in a public space that wasn’t polarized before they got there. It reminded me of this one girl from middle school who would walk into a room and loudly talk about whatever she wanted until all the other conversations petered out. They’re more than welcome to behave like that in their home, but they can’t go to a public space and expect everyone to cater to their beliefs.

From the admin on a post in Jan 2024. While I do appreciate offering the reasoning on the matter, I'm quite surprised since I checked all banned instances and hexbear seemed like an oddity amongst the mix.

Perhaps it's so long ago that I dont remember the issues.

But to categorise the banned instances we have the likes of:

  • threads
  • Lemmynsfw
  • maga.place

And the odd inclusion of one big instance which to me certainly feels like any average instance. Certainly no worse than lemmy.ml

Ofc its not my instance, I'm just bringing this up for reconsideration. If you don't wanna deal with it thats your decision to make. But it certainly feels unnecessary from the outside. Especially when so many nation based comms here post political content and so do most lemmy instances.

Sincerely, PinkyCoyote/ SnokenKeekaGuard. User and mod on this instance.
