Yeah, a lot of those shiny trucks and SUVs are bought on credit by people who really can't afford them and don't need a vehicle like that anyway.

Yeah, my current car is an almost 20 year old Mercedes c class, bought it a couple of years ago for 3k. Some of those cars that used to be at the upper end of the price range are pretty affordable when they get older. Mine had a good dealership service history, it's given me very little trouble, and it's great to have a nice car. I can't imagine wanting to buy anything new, even if I could afford to.

Thanks for that, I've saved your post for when I switch. My laptop runs windows 11 but I'm not enjoying the experience. Used linux a bit in the 90s but I've forgotten everything and will have to start from scratch. Yep, when I get some time I'm going to make the jump.

Mate I think you misread it again.

I had a song intermittently stuck in my head for over a decade, couldn't remember the artist, song name, or any of the lyrics. I only had the genre, language it was in, and a vague, memory-degraded description of a music video. Over the years I'd tried to find it on search engines a bunch of times to no avail, using every prompt I could think of. ChatGPT got it in one. So yeah, it's very useful for stuff like that. Was a great feeling to scratch that itch after so long. But I wouldn't trust an LLM with anything important.

I'm surprised no-one has asked an LLM to produce a plausible version and just released that, claiming it's a leak.

A gift box of unholy large spiders?

They misunderstood, trump said he loved minors, not miners.

Or a really bad shit.

TBF it requires minimum effort from the ai. Efficient.

Right, so every time I've been in or out of that elevator at the lobby, there's a fucked up couple standing there, off their heads, holding each other up.

The first dozen times I found em cute. Then they started to get a bit annoying. I mean, how fucked up are they? They've been trying and failing to get on that elevator for fuckin days. So I tried talking to them. Didn't work out. Then I tried a fuckin frag grenade. Felt like I ruined their party, tho, and the police didn't see the funny side. So I started ignoring them again. I've been up and down that elevator over a hundred times now, easy.

Anyway, the other day I was coming home for a nap and got to the elevator and they weren't there. Couldn't fuckin believe it. Maybe they'd finally caught the elevator, or maybe some cyberpsycho had eaten them. Was a bit worried. I've got round to kinda feeling like they're my pets, apparently cats an stuff don't survive in night city so gotta take pets where you can find em.

Anyway, when I came back down the elevator after a shower and a nap, there they were again.

Still, I'm wondering if anyone else has seen them just not be there? Anyone got any intel on these poor fuckin fraggles?

Edit it's my first playthrough btw. No spoilers please! I've got the option to meet hanaka at embers but said point of no return an I got shit I wanna do first.

I'm after game recommendations.

My situation, I used to enjoy gaming but stopped maybe twenty years ago when my PS2 died and I moved abroad. Until last year when I got a steam deck and I've been catching up on the good stuff I've missed. Played bioshock (great!) and soma (decent), I'm playing prey (think I'm nearly finished, just got to the military operators) and resident evil 7 (just got away from that nasty bint Margheritte).

Most of y wishlist had come from stuff I've read on here, so I thought I'd ask - what next?

Back in the day I really enjoyed silent hill (can't remember which one, would have been early 2000s, the one with the school and hospital). I'm enjoying resident evil 7 - haven't played any of the others - and I like the atmosphere but most of the scares seem to be jump scares.

Jump scares can be good but I kinda feel like they're a cheap scare. I'm looking for something more fundamentally upsetting.

No idea why, I can't watch horror films, I get too frightened! But this seems to be a game genre I enjoy. Any suggestions?

Help me out here?

So sometimes I just wanna play chess on my steam deck. I'm in my 50s, I got a steam deck about a year ago, and I am absolutely loving what it offers me. Before this I hadn't done gaming since PS1. I recently finished bioshock, I'm currently about a third of the way into cyberpunk. I'm also playing prey. I pick games to suit my mood. And sometimes my mood is to just wanna play chess against a computer. Can anyone recommend a game?

The steam library has a whole lot of chess games, but they mostly seem to be chess plus scary monster, chess plus tits, chess plus nonsense. I just wanna play chess! Ideally on a 3d board, that's all I ask. No gimmicks, no boobs, just chess that runs locally on my steam deck.

I've googled this and seen people on reddit etc saying you've got to play online versions in the browser - FFS!

Can someone recommend me a decent chess game that is steam deck compatible? I've already bought a couple of chess games that weren't verified and haven't worked out.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just frustrated. Chess is such an ancient and fundamental game I'd have thought this would be easy, but here I am asking for your help.

I'll be grateful for any ideas.

If this is true, there should be a 2.3 update coming

I'm sure it seemed like a great idea, but the waggy tail and good-boy body language just aren't scary.

Yeah pacman and pong were seminal but so was elite on the BBC, and Populous which I think was on the spectrum. Also unreal tournament, silent hill, vice city, homeworld, doom 2016, beam ng, I enjoyed em all but I can't decide. Ppl here have done much more gaming than me, I'm wondering what you all think is the best game ever. Age, platform, genre, bla bla - what's best ever?

Hi. So background is I'm 50 and I've not done much gaming since vice city and the original silent hills +unreal tournament. I'm trying to get back into it but I'm frustratingly crap.

I've got a steam deck and my neighbour has one too, we were looking for games we could play either head to head or cooperative. People suggested left 4 dead 2 and we managed to get that working through lobby thing but it was laggy and TBH it was a bit chaotic for us. Too much constant running and shooting and no time to pause for thought or discuss strategy.

I think we're looking for something with a bit of occasional violence but also some strategy - not just bang bang all the time. Maybe even something that doesn't involve violence at all. But we both working and only got an hour or two a day for game time.

Any suggestions?

First if it's possible to locally connect 2 steam decks (without a fuckin cable!). Second on what games might be fun. Needs to not have a big learning curve and be something we can just play for an hour or two when we have time.

Any suggestions would be very welcome. Cheers

Hi

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this. Basically I'm looking for recommendations for a game I can play against my 2 brothers. We live in different cities and hardly get to see each other but are we all into games.

We are all in our late 40s and haven't gamed against each other since way back when I had a few networked PCs in a squat where we played unreal tournament. I am well out of the gaming loop, i just finished bioshock a couple of months back, now I'm playing doom & death loop. I'm crap at both!

We were thinking we'd like to play a shooter just against each other, kinda like unreal tournament, or something we can do cooperatively. We are definitely not ready to go up against the kids online. Maybe doesn't have to be a shooter if it's fun to play together. Most of us have kids and none of us has loads of screen time.

One brother is on an Xbox One is on a PC One is on a steam deck with WiFi hotspot.

I'm grateful for any suggestions

Sorry about the shit photo. I can try to take a better one if anyone interested. Tat second and last session was maybe a month ago. At the top it's kinda covering up something silly I had done in the 90s.

Hi yeah so this is a follow-up post. I posted a pic of my garden maybe a month ago and said I'd post more pics over summer, so here is its current state. As you can see, the gladioli are coming and going, the calendulas are bullet proof (those fuckers will flower when temp drops to zero). There's a couple of grafted apples in the mix, my marigolds got nailed by slugs (lotta slugs and snails this year). I'm not growing any food aside from the apples which are too small to fruit and the heritage beef tomato someone gave me. The sweet peas are almost over, gutted cos I love how tarty they smell! But I've been saving seed pods. There's a bit more stuff in the mix.

Obviously growing in pots and crates is challenging but as you can see I live in a van and my plants have to be able to move when I have to go. Also there's fuck all soil where I am right now. I'd love a proper garden but I'm doing my best. Anyhoo, the bees and butterflies love it, and so do I.

Hi yeah so I'm not sure if this fits here but I'm posting it anyway. I live in a van so my garden has to be in pots so I can move it when I have to. Also there's fuck all soil where I am right now. I'm mostly about flowers, I'm not growing any food this summer except that tomato plant in the blue crate, someone gave me that and I couldn't not give it a chance. I think it's a heritage beef tomato. There's a couple of apples in the mix, one of em flowered in spring but they were only cuttings& grafts last year so doubt it'll fruit. The rest is meant to be pretty stuff, sweet peas, calendulas (dead headed, hopefully back soon, those fuckers are bulletproof), marigolds (slug attack but couple survivors) gladioli, couple of roses, snap dragons, sunflowers be coming late due to sluggery, cornflowers, the orange crate is supposed to be meadow flowers, we'll see what happens there. Anyway, if no-one tells me not to I'll post another pic in a few weeks cos all being well it'll only get prettier
