I think I'm finally doing this "touching grass" thing people talk about, I just got an e-bike a few days ago so I'm finally able to get out of the house in a meaningful capacity since I can't drive and I'm horribly out of shape, this lets me get around to places I need to go somewhat comfortably on my own while still letting me get a decent amount of physical activity (certainly far more than the near-zero I got before)

I've done a few trips just for fun and it's nuts just how much more you pay attention to and enjoy the environment compared to in a car, but today I did a grocery run and it was also very practical, I got a decent pannier bag I can clip to the bike that can be used as a shoulder bag or backpack and it holds a pretty decent amount

reddit logo users are harassing a trans person in the freedesktop organization for banning a well known bad actor from contributing, the guy who made hyprland, who encourages and participates in queerphobic harassment, especially against trans people

It's especially infuriating because previously people had reasonable discussions on /r/linux about how ridiculously shitty this guy is, but now pretend as if the accusations are completely unfounded, or pretend it doesn't matter (the usual defense is "it's his personal Discord, how can you ban him for stuff he does there??"), along with the usual complaints about "ideology infiltrating Linux" (this is especially hilarious seeing how many of these people also worship Richard Stallman), as well as the typical redditor idea that rules lawyering is perfectly valid because "debate" and any use of common sense moderation is "power tripping"

But all he has to do is say "Red Hat Bad!!" (this isn't even a Red Hat thing really) and write a few one-sided blog posts directly naming and shaming and everyone goes nuts

Words can't describe how upset I am at this situation, people like this are the absolute lowest scum of the Linux and free software community

Do you think they even realize how many of the people who write the software they rely on are queer πŸ€”

Edit: Feel a little more hopeful finding out that another thread was posted where people are far more reasonable, making it pretty clear that the thread I'm talking about isn't really the usual community response and is actually just brigading by the asshole's groupies

They probably think "the SEE SEE PEE will hack your phone and steal all your data the moment you step in the country!!" lmao

Edit: I was right lmao

This is true but also it's always morally correct to pirate Nintendo games

It does very much bug me though how, unsurprisingly, there's plenty of people on reddit and Twitter acting like piracy is the only reason one would use Yuzu, as if it isn't such a huge value to be able to run games you paid for at a more playable framerate and better resolution than Nintendo's outdated hardware

Like, hell, Tears of the Kingdom having such awful performance drops on official hardware even compared to BotW is basically the big reason I haven't bothered picking it up

47

This is pretty disastrous, the things Nintendo is suing over are things that apply to pretty much all emulators, it would be a very dangerous precedent to set if Nintendo were to win this one

And even if they don't win, it's still very shit that they're even able to use lawsuits as a scare tactic, that they can ruin people's lives even without needing to win

Also, daily reminder that "piracy equals lost sales" is nothing but corporate propaganda, often it's the opposite actually:

Was just watching the new Coaster College video about the roller coaster accident that happened in a park in Shenzhen last October, and while the video was good, man, so many of the comments are exactly what you'd expect about anything related to China

The funniest ones were the "made in China" ones, when the coaster in question was made by a US company πŸ˜‚

It's also pretty funny for people to act like there's fewer repercussions for Chinese companies for this kind of thing, when the video even mentions that the investigators sent by the city directly recommended criminal charges against multiple managers from the park in question, which is wild when these sorts of accidents in the US almost never result in anything resembling criminal charges, usually the people responsible don't even face any consequences

It's also interesting to see people mention it as being unusual that the Chinese government is so open about something (since the investigation info is available to the public), unfortunately I doubt they'll look at this and question anything else they've been told about China's government

Welp, just blocked another person I thought was cool over on Mastodon because they were boosting concern trolling about "Israeli civilians"

Just a reminder that if you're a western "leftist" and you're suddenly against Palestine now that they're fighting back, you're literally less radical than a lot of libs lol

[-] ShiningWing@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 1 year ago

"Wait, it's all Palestine?"

God I'm so sick of anarchists directly comparing Marxists to Nazis while pushing literal Nazi propagana themselves when they shit on the USSR

And then they call us a "cult" when they literally operate on an ideology of vibes and aesthetics

Oh, and can't forget how they spend more time attacking communists than they do attacking capitalism, fucking CIA "leftists"

It’s gotten so bad, I expect the next WW2 era first person shooter won’t be having a Russian campaign this time.

The next? Call of Duty: WWII already came out six years ago and only had an American campaign lol

It was honestly pretty hilarious how hard that one went into "America won WWII" territory when previous WWII ones were pretty good about showing how other countries made the bigger contributions (even with them still having biases and propaganda), most of them had a Russian campaign too
