Its the only way to make anonymous payments (XMR Monero) in a world where everything tracks and spies on you. And it's not only used to buy illegal stuff https://kycnot.me/ . I think of it like the TOR browser. Its great for people who are trying to escape an authoritarian government, but it can be used for bad things as well. But it should exist as I believe privacy is a human right.

Privacy in the UK is dead.

I mean Sweden asked for a backdoor recently. Maybe they're jealous of the US lol

Maybe they got access to a backdoor.

You don't even need to visit adult sites to find porn nowadays. Its all on social media.

Grayjay is great but I wish it was fully open source

Obviously the FOSS community has a heavy left wing bias. I personally haven't heard anything about Proton or Ladybird being controversial outside of Lemmy and Reddit. Clearly It's not just about transphobia and sexism (which I think is an overreaction). A lot of people in the FOSS community left Proton just because of one positive tweet about Trump (from an Asian immigrant living in Switzerland). I think it's really unhealthy for the FOSS community to jump ship the second a platform doesn't share their political opinions.

Mullvad. It seems like changing the server fixed it.

YouTube won't let me watch this video with my VPN on. Is this a new thing?

DAITA: Defence Against AI-guided Traffic Analysis. Which one of these would consider to be the best option for privacy? I can't have both on at the same time.

TLDR: He does not recommend CalyxOS and gave it a score of 3/10

I'm looking to get a custom ROM that has good compatibility with my device. Would you recommend /e/? I couldn't find a tutorial on how to install it with Linux but I don't think it should be that hard to figure out.

Hi. I'm a big YouTube guy. I spend a ton of time watching YouTube videos. But for the life of me, I can't seem to enjoy Japanese YouTube. I do enjoy watching SOME vtubers occasionally when they play fun games. Other than that I don't really read much unless it's on reddit/lemmy or github. Someone pointed me to a Japanese mastodon instance but it has a pretty intense VPN block.

What do you guys watch/read in Japanese?

I've been trying to find a good privacy respecting browser, but I can't really decide on what to use. I don't like the search results with Brave Search. DuckDuckGo shares my information with Microsoft and SearchXNG shows me NSFW images even with strict search on. I really like Presearch, but I'm not really sure what they're about.

EDIT: After tinkering with the settings of my SearXNG instance, it seems to have reduced the amount of NSFW images. I think I will stick with SearXNG for now.
