Data is over for 18 hours (rather than 24) because LemmyVerse hasn't updated in 17 hours (it normally updates every 6-12 hours), and the day (for me) will be over in a bit.
Adding descriptions would be complicated tbh: some are massive (so it's difficult to know where to cut off), the JSON from lemmyverse.net doesn't include them, and I'd have to make a new decision about how many Communities to include (this post would probably be unmanageable if it was full of descriptions too)
The metric used (subscriber growth) doesn't account for if there's actually much of anything there, but I like that these lists highlight new stuff that people might be interested in, rather than ones that people probably already know about.
Things are bit samey at the moment. Not much new from yesterday.
It'll get more interesting in time I think. For "Antique Memes Roadshow" (to use the top result as an example) the 520% growth it got from the 14th is still doing a lot of the heavy lifting - it'll start to be replaced by new stuff the more that result ages out.
EDIT: that said, I wasn't happy with how few NEW ENTRIES there were, so changed things to bring more in
Clicking that link on mobile opens up my email app! I think it needs a ! before it to work.

I heard an interview with Genevieve O'Reilly (Mon Mothma in Rogue One and Andor) who, when asked what her favourite Star Wars film was, gave the uncool answer of RotJ, and as the interview was ending, could be heard frantically trying to correct herself - "Argh! I meant Empire!, I meant Empire ... [fades out]".
I've always been down on the third film because of "Death Star 2" (like, think of another thing George), and I never went to see the 40th anniversary re-release because it was the 'Special' edition. (Speaking of the OT and editions, I saw the ADYWAN fanedit of Empire recently - it's the best one, IMHO).
It's blockable fortunately - maybe not via whatever app your using, but if you log into your instance website with a browser, you can choose to block the bot (at) lemmit (dot) online
English lets you get away with saying things you don't exactly mean. A lot of the efforts from groups that might be disparaged as 'woke' over preferred terminology exist because it allows for so much ambiguity.
To use a common example: there's a difference between "Group X struggle to get bank loans" and "Banks have consistently not loaned to Group X" in terms of where the fault lies, but because English allows us to use the former to mean the latter, it seems like an imposition to be reminded.
Other languages - e.g. German - don't allow for this: your intended emphasis changes the word order, so you have to think about what you really mean.
If you're from the UK, "Threads" is known as an oddly scary TV movie that messed up many a child who watched it. So it's already synonymous with end times.
Just seen it, had earlier dismissed as a kids film, but really enjoyed it.
There's a straightforward trans allegory, but it could also be applied to other situations where societies "make their own monsters". After all, the proverb "A child that is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth" is as old as humanity itself.
Most of my home feed is incomprehensible to me ('cos I don't understand Dutch). I signed up to a "recommended" instance and didn't clock that NL=Netherlands. Yeah, I don't know what I'm doing!
Ah, I wondered if that's what it was - I found a Star Wars community through a web search and it said there were 2.5k subscribers, but it only shows 1 subscriber (me) when I view from an app.
