Ah ok, I hadn't looked into the details as I was already interested in moving away. For me, I'm still set on moving away, as I know that it's easier to avoid buying on Amazon if I just have a different device.

From what I've heard, the newest generation doesn't show up as an external drive when you plug it into a computer.

I've been using Kindle Paperwhite since 2013. The hardware is fantastic, but their locked down nature is less than amazing. I'm currently looking at options for upgrading and moving away from the kindle ecosystem, and the the Kobo Clara BW is a compelling option. Or maybe wait and see if a new BW Libra comes out.

They still use them today in some supermarkets, now they use them to send packets of cigarettes through the store.

I'm planning on getting it in a steam sale. I guess it'll have to get to steam first.

For backpacking it's a matter of having to carry it all with you. Most people will likely bring a phone anyway for safety, so no need to carry a heavy camera on top. Also it's another thing to keep charged.
